Key Democrat says Voinovich, Specter vulnerable
WASHINGTON - Because Republican senators such as Ohio’s George Voinovich and Pennsylvania’s Arlen Specter face unusual challenges in next year’s Senate races, Democrats may be able to take back the Senate, according to Sen. Jon Corzine (D, N.J.), chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

"We’re in better shape than people think ... as long as we don’t shoot each other in the March primary,’’ Mr. Corzine said.

Republicans now have 51 seats compared with 48 for Democrats. Vermont Sen. James Jeffords is an Independent.

At least 17 Democratic incumbents are running for re-election next year. The party that controls the Senate, even by a single vote, controls committees, offices, and many other perks, making a huge difference on Capitol Hill and to a president.

2. That's Sad
The only two that we consider vulnerable are basically moderate Repukes. What the hell is wrong with these other states that they continue to support the right-wing extremists?

3. Specter in vulnerable becuse he is so much a centrist
He is getting challenged in the primary by a conservative Congressman (Pat Toomey). If it weren't for Toomey, there would only be a sacrificial lamb going against Specter in the general election.

4. Good...
if the challenge weakens Spector and helps the Democratic candidate then that's good.
