Dean pans plan to change Head Start management
July 23, 2003

By HOLLY RAMER The Associated Press

CONCORD, N.H. — Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean accused President Bush of “attacking ordinary Americans” by supporting efforts to give states more control over Head Start preschool programs.

Bush and House Republicans are pushing a plan to give a handful of states more control over Head Start management, provided they don’t cut services or reduce quality. They say sending money to states instead of directly to the providers would let states blend Head Start with other early childhood efforts.

But critics, including Dean and other Democratic presidential hopefuls, say the White House is trying to shift responsibilities to states that may not keep their end of the deal.

Dean on Wednesday called the Republican plan “an enormous mistake” that could lead to dismantling of a program that has helped more than 21 million children.

“This president seems just to want to privatize everything,” he said, listing Social Security and Medicare as examples. “We need a president who will stop attacking ordinary Americans.”

1. Well, everyone seems to be ignoring that the headstart bill also......
allows faith-based orgs to influence headstart as well. Much scarier than giving yet another unfunded mandate to the states.........

3. Well ya know...people keep talking about Dean attacking...but
I say, you go for it. Because he is not afraid to call * on what he is doing on EVERY issue. Every single issue *, using his Orwellian words like "Clean Air" etc., and in the past, most of the Dems just seem to acquiese. Dean is lightning-fast in calling * on ALL issue because he is wrong, deceitful and misleading the American people.

You go Howard Dean and I will follow.

Hi Alicia:

I have a meeting with ITT on Friday, sometime. Hope it works out. It probably wont be a great paying job, but if it pays the bills that will be fine. I have to stop the bloody bleeding wish me luck. Il may try to make it down there, just got an e-mail from them, promoting your buddy's website. Looks like more letter writing is in the wo r ks and that really does'nt excite me at all. (%&%*^*(*$##!!!!!!). Aargh!

I'll read the article next. You know, I find myself trying real hard to to be less "acidic". All this crap with the government, Bush, etc.... these guys need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. that is the bottom line and only then will these assholes think twice about thier actions, just like that slimy weasel money grabbing Clinton. I trust you heard about his latest comments, "every President makes mistakes....blah, blah". You know, like I told you the other, day. This shit with Iraq was going on before Bush. What happened with Bush is now coming to light. BUT, my contention is the CIA has faulty or outdated intelligence that was, simply put...the product of boatloads of knuckleheads, sitting on thier arses all day and "processing information" on Word and Powerpoint and, making too much money at it. My read on it, Clinton knows that, at least now, and is trying to cover his own arse.

How's my South African friend? Good, I hope. Did you ever contact ITT or the Int'l Academy of Arts? You are so articulate and smart Mike, you would make a GREAT instructor. I sincerely mean that.

Check out this article by William Pitt...it's good.

Comprehensive.

The Crime and The Cover-Up

The scandal axiom in Washington states that it is not the crime that destroys you, but the cover-up. Today in Washington you can hear terms like 'Iraqgate' and 'Weaponsgate' bandied about, but such obtuse labels do not provide an explanation for the profound movements that are taking place.

Clearly, there is a scandal brewing over the Iraq war and the Bush administration claims of Iraqi weapons arsenals that led to the shooting. Clearly, there is a cover-up taking place. Yet this instance, the crimes that have led to the cover-up are worse by orders of magnitude than the cover-up itself.

The simple fact is that America went to war in Iraq because George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and virtually every other public face within this administration vowed that Iraq had vast stockpiles of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. America went to war because these people vowed that Iraq had direct connections to al Qaeda, and by inference to the attacks of September 11.

"Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised," said Bush on March 17, 2003.
