Congressman McDermott Endorses Dean For America

BURLINGTON--Congressman Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) this afternoon endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean, M.D. In making his endorsement, McDermott said that he considered Dean the Democrats’ best chance of winning the presidency in 2004.

"I'm eager to support Governor Dean. I’ve taken time to meet with the other candidates, read about them and watch them, and Howard Dean’s simply the best," Congressman McDermott said. "I admire his willingness to take on President Bush from the beginning about the war in Iraq, which every day looks more like a mistake. I know too that, as a governor, he did all that he possibly could for health care. As a doctor myself, I can tell you that he has walked the walk like no one else in this race. Moreover, I’m excited about the campaign that Governor Dean is putting forward. He is energizing constituencies regularly left out of the political process, and bringing in thousands of new voters—voters who will help us take back the White House in 2004."

"I'm pleased that Congressman McDermott has decided to join our campaign to change America and empower people,” Governor Dean said. “He has served the people of the 7th district well for over a decade, and his work on health care issues over his thirty years of public service has helped people all across the world. I look forward to working with him over the coming weeks and months as we work to provide health insurance to all Americans who need it.”

McDermott, who represents Washington State’s 7th District, is currently serving his eighth term in Congress. The 7th District includes Seattle, Vashon Island, and parts of Shoreline, Tukwila, SeaTac, and Burien.

This is Governor Dean’s ninth endorsement from a member of Congress. McDermott joins Reps. Neil Abercrombie, Bob Filner, Raúl Grijalva, Zoe Lofgren, Jerrold Nadler, Major Owens, Frank Pallone, in addition to Vermont Senator Patrick J. Leahy.

1. That's a boost to Dean
That would help a lot in the early Washington primary (or is it a caucus? is it even that early?). Even though Jim McDermott isn't my favorite guy in the world I'm sure that will help Dean a lot in that state.

2. It's a Caucus
looks like they are going to cancel our Primary because it allows cross over voting - it really doesnt mean anything anyhow, it's the caucus that counts - Jim McDermott is a great guy and Washington is lucky to have him.

I was feeling a little down and just came upon your post! Now I'm flyin' High again!

Jim McDermott is the President of Americans For Democratic Action of which I am a Member in good standing!

Jim Mc is a Dr., too and I was so happy with him when he was over there putting himself on the line from Iraq with all those zealot wing whakos callin' him a traitor. Who's the traitor now?

:yourock: Jim McDermott!
