Am I the only one that thinks Davis is the man?

He does "slime and defend" better than any Repukes. And, he's got a progressive record to boot. I hope he goes on to work the warroom of one of the Dem campaigns. I love the guy. He may just take down the Terminator yet. If you live in CA you better vote tomorrow or you're going to hell.

on a CA beach when he was only 21 and she was 16. Do you guys remember that story from last summer? It appeared in the SF Chronicle or some such second rate newspaper. I thought, damn, Davis is the man from that moment on.

I hope to god he wins tomorrow. Don't say you will "hold your nose" and vote no on the recall. It was a Repuke power grab and as such should be rejected. Was Davis not liberal enough for you, Deaniac? Please, the guy has accomplished more good things for CA in 5 years than 2 decades of Repuke governors and any expansion of the GOP should be eagerly rejected.

9. Davis has signed more progressive legislation than any past gov.

He passed the strongest gun control legislation of any state. Limiting gun buyers to, alas, only one hand gun per month.

He's passed the strictest pollution/clean air regulation of any state. He's also passed a law requiring that %10 of all cars sold in CA by 2010 be alternatively powered or hybrid.

Strong pro-education, pro-labor and pro-family legislation.

He fought hard and got little support for his showdown with the Bush administration over their unwillingness to allow FERC to control energy prices while CA was robbed of billions. (see my other post about Arnold and Enron). Davis made repeated trips to DC to press his case and was given the cold shoulder.

You ought to do more research before you slander Dem politicians. Or just go back to voting Green if you like. Their guy in the recall isn't half-bad actually.

10. I know that Davis waited for 6 months while

energy prices went up 900% before he went to DC; I also know that Davis is not respected as a leader by anyone in California; I also know that he can be pro-education all he wants but my kid's school budget has been slashed by 45% while he was in office; I know that the power fiasco was responsible for roughly 9 billion of the $38 billion we are in the hole, where did the rest go? I know that when I go to his website there is a new design for the state quarter but no ideas for getting us out of this mess; I know that most people who are pro-Davis don't live here.

11. I lived in CA for 18 years

I dispute the fact that Davis waited 6 months before going to DC. He knew it was the Repukes own failed deregulation plan that failed the state the first time. But when power prices were driven up a second time it was clear there was market manipulation at work and Davis spoke up about it and got zero support. The state was robbed and the courts have done little as has the federa; government to get CA the money it was owed.
The rest of the money? Well, $38 billion may sound like a lot for a state. But CA is not just any ordinary state, it is the world's 5th largest economy. And, in case you didn't notice, we live in bad economic times. Most states are running a deficit. CA has the added problem of being ground zero in the internet bust. The problem is Californians think they are 'special' and if things are going bad they ought to have the right to just "go out and get a new governor." That;s the problem. So, hold your head high tomorrow and vote no on the recall and yes for CB.

early on in the primary of 2002 riordan was ahead in the polls and thought he would easily win the primary so he only attacked davis. clinton told davis it would be a huge mistake not to respond to that until after the primary. so davis begin responding during the primary which resulted in riordan having to answer and republicans voting for bill simon who is an idiot.

19. Davis has won every election - even the ones he should have lost

Last year, even Joe Dunn was talking about how Davis is the luckiest guy on Earth.

The people who vote for him don't like him but he always seems the best choice. I've met him on a number of ocasions. I actually liked him better when he was running for controller. Mostly he comes across as very plastic. Posing for a picture with him is like positng with a mannequin. For a Democrat, he's terrible on civil rights (though not as bad as Dean) - except when a recall election is coming up. He saved the State Bar of California after Pete Wilson tried to destroy it. He's in trouble because he did not have the courage to come on stronger with respect to the power companies. A Republican would have done worse. Personally, I think Sharon Davis should have run on the second half of the ballot. She would have landslided to victory.

20. the California party organization has screwed up this campaign...

if the recall fails, it will only be because of the excellent record and hard work of Governor Davis. Instead of wasting its time and money on ads against arnold, the party should have been running ads informing our own base about the recall vote. Around 10% of hardcore Davis supporters do not even understand that a vote in favor of the recall is a vote against Davis.

The party would have best served its function not by finding alternatives to Davis or pushing Cruz..but by getting the info out to party voters that a recall election is not a re-election campaign. Instead many comman voters will vote yes on the recall, and will look in vain for Davis's name on the second part of the ballot.

22. You're probably not the only, but I'm not one.

I live in California. I voted "no" on the recall this morning; I'm defending my governor and my state. I applaud Governor Davis for whatever he's done that was helpful. I don't thank him for his support of Pete Wilson's CA brand of NCLB. Since I deal with the fallout daily, I've got years of frustration simmering. I'm not a big fan.

That said, I don't have to like him to recognize his value; he's better than the other options. And I will continue to defend him and his office against republican take-over attempts.
