The Hill: State by state (PA-6 and MN-2)
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 09:53 PM by NewJerseyDem
I know goobergunch will probably like this.

http://www.thehill.com/campaign/100703_state.aspx

"Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Democrats are trying to persuade State Sen. Allyson Schwartz to take on freshman Rep. Jim Gerlach (R) in the 6th District, a state party source said.

By recruiting Schwartz, Democrats hope to avoid a primary and select a consensus candidate to oppose Gerlach, who won the redrawn district by less than 6,000 votes last year."

1. Schwartz would be a good candidate
It seems like she would be the best candidate to take on Gerlach. There are a lot of others who could run to hold onto Hoeffel's seat and that seat is more democratic but we need a strong candidate to take down Gerlach and Schwartz would be that strong candidate.

Also, I would guess that Luther would be the best candidate to try to reclaim his old congressional seat. He would already have high name recognition but if he lost as an election when he was an incumbent than it would be hard for him to win as a challenger.

Any thought on these two races and those two potential candidates?

2. Some state senator was thinking of running against Kline...
anyway, Luther probably could do it if:

1-he didn't run such a horrible campaign this time
2-he points out just how extremist Kline's record is
3-everyone pissed off at Bush and Pawlenty sweeps Kline out on coattails

5. I believe that St. Sen. Steve Murphy was considering it
But I also think that Luther could pull this off.

3. I thought that Schwartz was running in PA-13

but if she ran in my district, that would be EXCELLENT. She's easily our strongest potential candidate.

4. They want her to move
It seems like party leaderst think she is more needed in PA-6 than in PA-13.

7. Probably nobody
I guess that party leaders think that a consensus candidate is needed to oust an incumbent in the swing PA-6. However, they think that a primary won't be as bad in the open PA-13 where the republicans are likely to have a primary and where Gore won fairly comfortably.

If Bob Borski tries to return to the House then I would guess that he would be the consensus candidate even though a primary would be likely. I believe he retired after republican redistricters put him in with Hoeffel in PA-13.

8. Borski would be the perfect choice
He'd clear the primary and would win the general election.
