John Kerry: Shading the Truth?
Guess Kerry's not perfect.

The Worst of John Kerry. "In sum, Kerry seems innocent of duplicity but guilty of an extremely nuanced moral code, according to which it's OK to throw away your ribbons and somebody else's medals, but not your medals."

Whopper of the Week: John Kerry. "Chatterbox's bottom line is that a political candidate and officeholder is responsible for whatever goes out under his name. So the Senate statement alone qualifies this as a Whopper. As to the larger question of whether Kerry habitually tells opportunistic lies about his background, or anything else, the jury's still out. But you can bet the Globe, and everyone else, will be watching."

The Many Faces of John Kerry. "Naturally, when a private company came to Massachusetts recently and told of plans to generate electricity with the winds that blow through the 18 miles of ocean between touristy Cape Cod and wealthy Nantucket Island, one would expect that Kerry would jump up and down with glee. Wrong. He is waffling. With super-rich landholders and yachtsmen such as Walter Cronkite, the Kennedys, Kerry himself, and his neighbors concerned about the possible sighting from the shore or their yachts of a few sea-based windmills, the candidate is unwilling to give the project his support at this time - a critical period when the alternative-energy company needs as much help as it can get. Critics call it hypocritical, but a Kerry spokesman provides this disclaimer: 'The facts aren't in on Cape Wind and its environmental effect. ... John Kerry is waiting for all the information to come in the environmental-impact statement before he makes a decision on whether to support the project.'"

Continuing: "Kert Davies, research director of Greenpeace, has put it this way: 'Kerry is the one who really needs to be called out on this stuff. He's been pretty mum so far. We don't know where he stands.' And many on the left who were expected to support Kerry's candidacy, but have drifted off to Howard Dean, say there is a pattern to all of this. Most cite the invasion of Iraq, currently a more important issue than renewable energy. They note that Kerry voted to give Bush authorization to wage war in Iraq, and they say they are not likely to forgive him for it."

1. I see this stuff as "Gore"-ing
Edited on Sun Sep-14-03 01:15 PM by Cocoa
the Dean supporters complain of Dean being "Gore"'d but the Dean stuff is about real, current statements he's making.

Look what you've posted there, the stupid "medals" story, the stupid thing about whether he lied about being Irish.

The third one I don't know about, but it's from a Moonie rag, so I'm not going to bother.

If you want the definition of "Gore"-ing a candidate, you've given an excellent example right there.

3. The Irish thing its silly
For a long time I thought I was Czech and Serbian in reality I am Slovak and Slovene two totally different things for those who think we are all the same :). I thought that because I was dumb or didnt conceive things right. I bet theres a problem to the people who think its a big deal that Kerry lied about being Irish that Kucinich likes kielbasa although hes a vegan. Some of this nonsense including Kerry's Irishness is trival. Isnt the medals story a right wing story

4. Well, We Do Talk About HIS VOTE
At least, that's what I (and many others) talk about (every time John Kerry reminds us of it). I couldn't give a flying (bleep) about whether he said he's Irish or not.

Well, the NIMBY windmills story is kind of strange, but I'm cutting him slack on that one.

7. I dont know about the windmills
but thats an environmental issue and no one in this race has a better environmental record than Kerry, he beats out Kucinich by a few points I think, and I think Lieberman yes him has a pretty good one.

13. Windmills can hurt wildlife
I can see a legitimate concern about the birds and whales. I've seen alot of reports about ensuring wind farms don't interfere with birds in particular, but I can see the noise from the windmills affecting whales and other sealife as well. But I'll stil be watching on this one.

9. the vote is a real issue
but Kerry really stands out from the pack as far as having the inane stuff thrown at him, like Gore did. The only ones that I can think of that came close didn't have much staying power, the "notebooks" thing about Graham and the "divided loyalties" thing about Lieberman.

But Kerry takes the cake. He's got lying about his ethnicity, lying about his cancer, Skull and Bones, medals, "looks French", what else? I guess I could check out the National Review or the Weekly Standard for the rest of the line on Kerry.

17. You accept it or not
And you're right, I was just thinking today he just needs to shut the hell up about it until asked. Which is what he did yesterday.

But it's so simple to me, authorize war as a last resort and the threat of force because Saddam only responds to force.

I have no idea how Howard Dean planned on getting the inspectors into Iraq, nobody will tell me. Except those who pretend Saddam said yes they can come in, but forget he said - they can't go here or there or see this or that.

6. Oh really?
The SS stuff dates back to 95 (that isn't now). The Hamas stuff, the even handed stuff, the Cuban stuff, the he won't share his supporters stuff, the waffling on Iraq stuff, and so many other charges are based on either partial truth or outright lies. There have been some legitimate things but damn few.

18. don't you see the difference?
Social Security, Middle East, Cuba, Iraq.

Evil fraternity, medals, haircuts, clothes, inventing the Internet, etc. etc.

I see the essence of "Gore"ing to be the total irrelevance of the things being discussed. I have an inanity test that I can't really spell out, I just know it when I see it.

20. not really
since in all the cases I have cited the quotes are either totally false or spun in such a way as to may as well being false. That is exactly what happened to Gore.

2. Heck, the RNC Even Has a Kerry Research Site
Click here for the RNC stuff.

What a nasty, evil man, that John Kerry is. Horrible baby killer and polluter of endangered sea lion habitat. Why, he even denies breast milk to Brazilian infants.

Anyone see my point yet? Stupid attacks are stupid and, frankly, backfire. Let's knock it off.

5. What Is With All The Kerry Bashing Threads?
I resent you suggesting that Kerry is less than perfect. That is just hitting below the belt (although in fairness, he is very tall).

I am going to put you on ignore now and go back to my Kerry blog, where it is warm and safe.

I hope you're happy now!

8. Tee hee
You know, I think it's important to remember that while this is serious business and we all feel strongly about our candidates, we should be relishing the fact that we have this opportunity to send Bush back to Crawford! This is FUN!

10. (Chuckle.)
As Arnold used to say, "That's a good one." :-)

I do have to laugh at all this stuff. Candidates are desperate for attention, and, heck, I'd try goofy stuff, too.

You're down at least 10 points in your must-win state, and you won't get much credit if you do win it. You're still struggling to explain your Iraq vote, and nobody's buying. And then there's that Clark fellow, who just might kick you off the back pages and into the classifieds. So what can you do?

It's the normal noise we get every four years. I certainly don't mind it. But consider that Bill Clinton in 1992 was exposed as an adulterer, which should have been the end of his political life. And we know how that story ended up.

12. Yes we know
The wind energy issue is serious and I'll be watching this closely. The noise wind makes and the fact that birds are killed by windmills does mean enviromental impact studies need to be completed. It would be irresponsible for him to support this wind farm with no study on the affect to the whales and birds.

The rest of it is about as interesting as Howard Dean skiing instead of serving in Vietnam.
