This is Dennis being Dennis connecting with people of all types, its not that racially diverse being that it is in rural Iowa. Dennis shows his wit, and Tom Harkin makes a great host. All kinds of people ask Dennis questions, retirees, college students, and middle aged people etc. They seemed to like him too.

1. Thanks for the pointer, John--I'd not heard this one before
I really like the fact that he says he considers manufacturing a strategic factor in national security. That's spot on.

I also think he's right on about how NAFTA cannot be patched, it must be scrapped.

"I'm {name} and you're a breath of fresh air for all of Iowa!" (big applause)

2. yeah I know
A wide variety of people too, it wasnt diverse racially because as I said its rural Iowa but Harkin was great too, maybe he could be a VP for Dennis, and yeah he kicked. On NAFTA Dennis has seen with his two eyes what it has done, and we need to manfacture our own goods, this isnt a point I understood when I was younger, but my grandfather not a social liberal more moderate but a liberal on economics, told me how way back when we used to make our products. He is a retired bricklayer.

3. I've seen it before,
and here I am watching it again. Dennis recognizing the grief beneath the anger, and bringing hope and optimism to America.

It's just as good the 2nd time as it was the first.

Thanks for bringing the link back up.

4. no problem
:kick: Really was neat huh, we need people like Harkin if DK wins the race as our running mate, but I like the idea of Barbara Lee and DK says he has considered her.

5. Personally,
I'd like to see Harkin or Wes Clark. Clark would be good strategically but Harkin would be good for rallying support for Kucinich.

7. Either of those would be fine.
My personal pick for VP would be Braun, but that's just because I like her. No political reason.

8. Harkin would be better
I think Harkin or maybe :) Teddy Kennedy heh, I would have loved to see Wellstone/Kucinich but Paul passed on.

6. I thought it was amazing
though I can't quite decide in what way, that he can ignore Bush as irrelevant, so irrelevant that he barely feels the need to acknowledge popular anger. I suspect that it's a mistake--that he needs to take a shot at Bush in some way, at least give people the chance to discharge their anger in laughter. I don't think that simply acknowledging that he's 'aware' of the anger is helpful enough.

10. I've heard him speak of the anger, but I get
that he wants it to be used for action- so we can get moving...to change what we don't like- what doesn't benefit us.

Yeah , we are all angry but sitting around & name calling is really not productive...we can blame or we can change......he acknowlwdged that yeah, everybody is pretty angry about what * has done

Anger is best if it can be used in a constructive way.....
we can channel it into defeating *.....

I'm sure if he's given the opportunity he'll get to use some of his great humor to release a bit of that nager...

Peace
DR

18. I think, from a few things I'm hearing
through the grapevine, he takes his cues from the people around him before he goes onto the platform or stage. One of the people who was at the AFL-CIO event said they had himpsyched to challenge his opponents that night and that's why he came out so powerfully.

But I suspect you're right, the people need to feel he not only sympathizes but feels the same anger we do.

9. In the July 2 Santa Fe rally I went to,
He only brought up anger 4 times:
1) 2000 election stolen
2) Bush trading on 9/11 for everything
3)Bush is terrible on Israel/Palestine policy (Brought up terrible examples)
4) Iraq policy for after the invasion disastrous.

You know, sometimes I like to hear a good dig of the repug policies, but when time is limited, I like it that he gets out his positive programs and ideas. We already KNOW how horrible the repugs and the Bushies are, so why waste our time?

We keep hearing: "Why do the Democrats just criticize? Why aren't they offering alternatives?" Well, THIS DEMOCRAT IS!!

13. watched it this past weekend...
it was good.

I think he won over some new fans in the group of people there. But then maybe they were for him in the first place...like that one lady near the end.

Also watched the AFL-CIO this past weekend, and he shined in that as well.

I get to see him live this saturday. :)

15. You know I really wish we could
use popular songs to promote him. I read your comment about maybe writing a poem about him and the song "Holding Out for a Hero" just popped into my head.

16. yes
Plenty of music that makes me think of the fight ahead, would be listening to it now but my iPod needs to be recharged. He's such a down right likable guy, and some judge him because last tuesday. Him in Iowa with Senator Harkin can one say that was inspirational and beautiful. Harkin or some midwestern populist or a minority would be a good ticket mate.
