Whitman Spending Hits $99M in California Gov Race
Meg Whitman has given her campaign $91 million of her own money.

From 2005 to 2007, Meg Whitman’s last full years as CEO of eBay, the stock price was cut in half, a loss of $30 billion in market value. Toward the end of her career at eBay, she made a number of strategic mistakes that cost the compaly dearly. Her talent at running a large mature corporation does not inspire confidence.

EBay’s Lost Years

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Billionaire Republican Meg Whitman reported Monday that she has spent more than $99 million in her quest to become California's governor, while Democrat Jerry Brown is saving money for what could become the most expensive gubernatorial contest in American history.

The former eBay chief executive reported Monday that she spent nearly $20 million in the six-week period ending June 30, which included the weeks immediately before and after California's primary. Her campaign said she spent $71 million to win the GOP primary against state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.

Brown, who faced no serious challenger in the Democratic primary, has spent just $450,000 on his race to date, although the number climbs to $774,000 once donated services are included. Whitman's figure jumps to $100.3 million when such services are included.

Brown has $23 million cash on hand, while Whitman has about $10.3 million.

2. Gotta wonder about someone's motivation
when they are willing to spend that kind of dough on a job that pays relatively nothing, is guaranteed to get everybody pissed off at her, and will wind up making her look even more foolish than she does now. Something is definitely lacking in her life.

3. update: 104 million whitmanbucks per August 14

There's an old saying I like. Familiarity breeds contempt. And California is becoming familiar with Whitman.

Can't help it. She's everywhere.
