2. I don't think they saw McCain as being on their side.
Most of them would rather have had Sarah Palin at the top of their ticket.

3. They believe themselves to be the majority, but that is just another one of their delusions
From looking at a bunch of polling this morning, I am thinking they represent between 10 to 20% of the population, and that is being generous.

9. The game was rigged, of course
They weren't going to let an actual populist with significant and genuine grassroots popular support actually win anything. How would the corporatists control everyone with an independent thinker in command?

Remember Fred Thompson pretending for months that he was going to run a serious campaign? IMO that was designed to derail any potential non-corporatist challenger. Thompson's rhetoric was very different from McCain's, yet Thompson turned around and endorsed his "good friend" McCain - even though McCain's actual positions were more different from Thompson's than any other alternative. It was a set-up and the internal opposition within the GOP got punked.

Might be funny, except this kind of crap is not exclusive to the GOP.

7. I think they would say...
...that they came to the forefront in response to Obama's previously unforeseen policies. That's just a guess on my part, that is, if you're actually looking for a serious answer. They will be a threat to the progressive cause IF unemployment remains at +10% come November 2012. Then again, if unemployment remains at that level, maybe we need to rethink what we're doing anyway, right?

10. Because ACORN stole the election
A majority of Republicans apparently believe that, now.

11. I think it has to do with fear. ?
They don't really oppose spending and limited government, they are just afraid of Obama.... McCain and the rest of the GOP don't have "small government" as some of the teabaggers claim.
