Harry Reid should stick to his duties (and his, apparently, uphill campaign)

He should not declare that the Senate should reject whoever is appointed by Blago, and he should not express his support for Caroline Kennedy.

Let both states go through the process. This is their right.

1. I agree on Caroline, but he has a duty to say what he intends to do

on a Blogo appointment. Besides, I'm listening to this new appointment now, and I'm not impressed!

2. A propos Caroline Kennedy, I know she has done a lot of work for

charity, but has she, in the past twenty years, ever held down a job for more than a couple of years in which she actually had to go in to work at least from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day, day after day? That, for me is a prerequisite for serving in the Senate.

5. No, of course not. Not only that, while she chaired many events and charities

she had the luxury to carefully screen which one deserved her presence and her name. She is referred to as a "lawyer" but she really has a law degree - from Harvard - and wrote several books but she has never practiced law, as opposed to Hillary.

Mainly, she has never mingled with the crowds, shook hands, kissed babies, ate rubber chicken.. debated and endured nasty attack ads from her opponents.

She did a bit for Obama but, again, you can bet such appearances were carefully selected an monitored.

I doubt that Uncle Ted had ever held a job before he ran for office, but at least he campaigned.

6. I think she is qualified to sit on boards of directors, but not to

serve as a senator. Having worked on the administrative staff of a non-profit, I am very familiar with the kinds of women who do good works on boards of directors and raise lots of money for good works. They don't have the experience or the drive to handle a full load of work. Senators work longer than 8 hour days. The work is tough. It's demanding. Caroline Kennedy has never held a job. It would be a huge mistake to name her to the Senate.

3. He could have said that the Senate will reserve its decision

instead of coming out and flatly reject anyone appointed. I will not be surprised if he either has to make an about face, or, if he goes ahead and rejects this guy, he will alienate many Illinoisans which can mean a Republican senator in 2010.

4. How come he's only forceful about other Dems? If there were a Repug

involved, he'd bow and scrape like normal.

7. It may have to do with the Democratic Caucus

that, of course, would express opinions only about other Democrats.

I think that in the past few days I've heard the caucus mentioned.
