Obama Press Conference
On Now. The last reporter to question him asked a lengthy question. Pres-elect Obama replied to the last part. Then he went back to the first part of tehe question, which I had already forgotten, repeated it accurately, I think, and then spoke to subsequent things raised by the rporter.

Very remarkable response to the reporters lengthy question. During the response he often looked down at the lectern. I wonder if there was a screen on the lectern on which the reporter's question appeared?

Immediate automatic transcription of spoken statements is possible. A fast steno is just as good.

Great idea if it was done. However, if there is additional info on the screen to prompt his reply that provides something to think about.

TV reporters are now commenting on how many questions the reporter tried to sneak in on the pres-elect and what a good job he did in responding.

I wonder if there was a screen on top of the lectern which was fairly well hidden by the sign in front of it?? If so, what was it presenting to him. The question? Name of reporter? More?

I don't think that I would object to this if it was done but on the other hand what if it was a Sarah Plalin looking at the same screen and getting off-site prompts for her reply?

I will have to look at the conference again but otherwise I would have to say that Pres-e has a great memory.

1. Maybe he just knows what he's talking about.
He's smart, remember? You'll have to adjust to this after 8 years of rambling, but eventually you will.

2. pressers always have seating charts
he knows who is sitting where. I think looking down just helps memory, or he had notes of points he wanted to make.
He does not need immediate transcription.

3. Your assessment is correct, however, that was ed henry from cnn I believe, and cnn
afterwards, was self-congratulating themselves how "hard" hitting their questions were

They were also subtly trying to slam Obama's choices by implying that Volker raised interest rates to the highest level the country ever knew, and that implied it might also occur now

In addition, they tried to paint Obama's appointees as the same old insiders which would change nothing

The distortion from cnn was pathetic

8. CNN, eh? I assumed he was from Fox
or some other right wing group, given how he was phrasing his leading questions.

4. I know I'm going to disagree with him but, DAMN, Obama still rocks.
He is so...competetent.

I had forgotten that as an American I was entitled to a competent president.

5. He would never risk it because of the blathering idiots who would
never stop talking about it. The same blathering idiots who let Bush get away with being wired during a debate. Remember when all was quiet and his green light was still on he said "wait a minute, let me finish?" That the media never flew with that is a statement to the media mind set that gives the wealthy party a pass for everything while always on the lookout for us to screw up the littlest of things.

6. You state that his reply
to the lengthy question was remarkable. That's what I expect in a president. Obama is incredibly bright, and he doesn't need a prompter to answer questions from the press.
