California's Democrats shift into Obama's camp, Field Poll finds

Three and one-half months after Hillary Rodham Clinton won the state's presidential primary, California Democratic voters now prefer second-place finisher Barack Obama, according to a new Field Poll.

In a May 16-27 survey of Democratic voters, Obama was preferred over Clinton by 51 percent to 38 percent – nearly the reverse of Clinton's 51.5 percent to Obama's 43.2 percent in the California primary.

In a related poll that included Democratic, Republican and independent voters, Obama and Clinton each held a 17 percentage-point lead in the state over presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

Among Democrats, the flip in preferences from Clinton to Obama seems to signal increasing acceptance that the Illinois senator will be the party's nominee in November.

2. Yup. If CA hadn't moved up its primary, Obama would have
blown Clinton out here and put the exclamation point on his nomination. It was Terry McAwful that came galavanting into CA to meet with Dem leaders just prior to the decision to move it up. When Blitzer brought up the subject during an interview, speculating that it was good news for Clinton, the look on McAwful's face told the story. One thing's for sure, that guy should stay the hell away from poker games.

I worried at the time that it was a last straw of sorts, and that Clinton would be unbeatable. Fortunately that hasn't been the case. In retrospect, if it hadn't been moved up the election wouldn't really even be considered close at this point.

These new numbers should give SDs confidence to just end this charade.

3. What no one ever talks about is all the folks like me
Who voted Edwards or all the folks who voted for all of the other candidates like Dennis or Bill who, like myself are now bitter, white, blue collar, gun owners for Obama.
