Hillary: It's Me And Ordinary Folks Against "Elite" On Gas Tax Holiday
By Greg Sargent - May 4, 2008, 9:16AM

Hillary Clinton has just started doing an Indiana town-hall meeting being broadcast on ABC, and George Stephanopoulos asked her a direct question:

Could she name a single economist who agrees with her support for the gas tax holiday?

Hillary sidestepped the question, and tried to use the complete dearth of expert support for the idea to her advantage, pointing to it as proof that she's on the side of ordinary folks against "elite opinion" -- a phrase she used twice.

"I think we've been for the last seven years seeing a tremendous amount of government power and elite opinion behind policies that haven't worked well for hard working Americans," she said.

A bit later she added: "It's really odd to me that arguing to give relief to a vast majority of Americans creates this incredible pushback...Elite opinion is always on the side of doing things that don't benefit" the vast majority of the American people.

An ordinary voter begged to differ, however. Stephanopoulos turned the mike over to a woman who said she supported Obama and said she makes less than $25,000 a year.

1. And on CNN, Robert Reich calls her plan "stupid"
he may as well have called Hillary stupid.
Ouch.

2. The more she opens her mouth...
...the more indistinguishable she becomes from a Republican.

4. Can't someone just arrest her now...
for pandering. Jeesh!

She might as well stand on a street corner in Indianapolis and hand out $20 bills and whisper "vote for me on Tuesday!".

5. Every time she plays that elite card against Obama, John McCain comes closer to being the next POTUS
And I happen to think she's smart enough to know that.

6. I don't like who she's turned into in this campaign.. Her policy ideas are
ok.. some better than Obama's.. but she's using everything.. and its looking desperate.

I don't like the way some Obama supporters act. I don't like that they excuse him and cannonize him. At the same time, I find I cannot trust Clinton at all.. and unlike some people, I think Rev. Wright is awesome, and I wish more American's had the true knowledge of history, policies, and world views better that Obama wouldn't have to distance himself from Rev. Wright.

7. Clinton/McCain should be ashamed of their idiocy
No relief at the pump will occur - which is what every informed voter knows, and what every person of reasonable intelligence understands. The federal tax portion of the price will simply go into the pockets of the oil companies as the pump price increases quickly right back to current levels after the 'holiday' is declared. Meanwhile that federal revenue stream went directly to highway construction and maintenance, and these two jackasses have no explanation for what we are going to do about that lost revenue, the maintenance not done, and the jobs that will disappear.

I expect republicans to engage in tax cut pandering. I expect democrats to level with the voters and tell them the truth.
