Kucinich Floats Plan to Resolve Florida, Michigan Delegate Disputes
Kucinich Floats Plan to Resolve Florida, Michigan Delegate Disputes
By Jonathan Allen, CQ Staff

Former Democratic presidential candidate Dennis J. Kucinich has proposed a plan to seat delegations from Florida and Michigan at the Democratic National Convention based on the results of a fresh round of polling in the two states.

The Democratic Party stripped the states of their delegates as punishment for holding primaries in January in violation of rules designed to preserve the role of early primary states, including Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, in the nominating process.

Kucinich’s proposal, a copy of which was obtained by CQ Politics Wednesday, has been circulating among Democratic members of the House for nearly a week.

The plan would base the distribution of delegates on polling conducted by three firms, one selected by each campaign and a third chosen by the other two companies. Delegates would be apportioned based on the composite findings of the three polls. None of the firms could have previously been employed by either campaign.

2. Depends on the timing of the polls. They are very fluid. Just look at
the numbers for NC.

4. Anyone notice the increasing credibility being given to polling?
While listening to the Senate hearings on Iraq with Crocker & Petraeus, I couldn't help but notice how so many Senators cited polls and news reports as intelligence information. I mean aren't there more valid means of gathering security intelligence? Since our top foreign policy leaders depend on polling to make critical decisions regarding wars and such, I don't see why not for something as mundane as settling political disputes.

They are "couch warriors". The country is going down the hole but hey they get more money in their pockets. They live in a delusional state.

9. While I think DK's the best Democrat in office,
this is a rare instance where I disagree.

I think we should get polls out of the campaign and election process, period.

I don't think we should legitimize their use by bypassing actual votes to allow polls to choose delegates.

I don't really think there is a clean way to fix this problem now. Even if you had another primary, and allowed everyone to vote, the ballot, and choices, would now be narrowed to two unsavory candidates, so that the broader choice voters SHOULD have had the first time around won't be there.
