Californians--what about those propositions?
I'm undecided; want to help me decide?

Prop 55--school construction bond. Leaning yes, because I work in temporary school facility meant to house about 300 kids. We've been there 10 years. We have 900 students. But I am concerned about raising CA's debt level at this point.

Prop 56 -- Budget passes with 55% instead of 2/3. Leaning yes. But that could come back to bite us if republicans ever gain a majority.

Prop 57 -- Arnold's $15 billion bond to refinance state debt. Leaning no...but not for the right reasons. Just because I'd like to say no to Arnold. CA dem party officially supports this one.

Prop 58 --California balanced budget act. Can't decide. Sounds good, but I'm concerned about the integrity of prop 98, which guarantees schools a certain level of funding. I don't want to go backwards. CA dem party officially supports this one.

So, fellow Californians, what do you think?

1. Hmn
Prop 55 - Yes, I think construction of our faltering public schools is long overdue.

Prop 56 - undecided. I'm leaning towards a yes becuase it will finally end all the partisan gridlock, I'm especially bitter with the Republicans who sat on their hands when Davis was governor just to spite him. But then again, it will come back to bite us in the ass if Repubs gain control.

Prop 57 - No, for two reasons. First, it's a temporary solution to a long term problem and Arnold lied to us in saying that he'd be able to balance the budget without raising taxes. This is pretty much a tax raise for our children. Second, I'm pissed at Arnold for lying and raising my tuition, while cutting funding for education, I'm not going to grant him any political victories.

Prop 58 - No, I think that budgets should be at least a bit flexible, especially with Prop 13 in effect we can't afford to lose anymore flexibility in the budget.

2. All good points.
Thanks for your input!

I may not make a final decision until the last minute; I want to hear more discussion.

3. YES, YES, NO, NO.
We need capital funding for education. We need to take away the GOP minority's power to cause budget havoc. We shouldn't let the governor off the hook by passing the buck on his fiscal irresponsibility onto future Californians. So yes to the first two--no to the second. My Democratic club endorses these positions.

4. Interesting.
My democratic club has been mum on 55 and 56; sent along the state endorsements of 57 and 58.

At this point in time, I tend to agree with your assessment. I've got a couple more weeks to ponder.

5. Yes, Yes, NO, No.
1. Schools definitely need help.

2. 2/3's is just way to high, I'd prefer 60% but this is acceptable.

3. Balance the budget, don't smooth it over until next year.

4. Let government govern.

6. Say NO to Arnold!
No on all thta crap!! Arnold ran saying he had "new solutions"
If we wanted another bond issue , Davis could have done THAT>

Obligating the state to an interest debt amount that exceeds the face value ofthe bond is wrong and only benefits the SAME bankers who:
Bankrolled Enron
Raped the state with "emergency loans"
and just held a NYC fundraiser for der gropinator, 100k a plate.

Business as usual must stop.
