Russ Feingold Opponent Shows His Stripes
Russ's opposition is the usual gang of Wisconsin GOP luminaries. We have State Sen. Bob Welch of Redgranite, a dim bulb among low wattage peers; Russ Darrow, car dealer magnate and wizard of needless repair work; and now Tim Michels, scion of a pipe laying company in rural Dodge Company. Michels' website has the usual stuff about protecting Medicare, cut taxes, pay down the national debt, etc. He isn't a bad guy: highly educated, twelve years in the military, hasn't seemed to be a zany.

But in today's mail comes a fancy mailing that addresses only ONE thing: abortion. The whole damned thing is pro-life and defense of the family and keep partial birth abortion illegal (like it's coming back soon) and so on. I mean, it would have been one thing to see this combined with other issues... but this it!

It should be noted that the Republican assemblyman for this area (which is solidly GOP) made it through his first and only primary with strong support from the pro-lifers. Michels is pandering for the same support.

This may be of interest only to my fellow Wisconsin people, on the other hand losing Russ Feingold would be unfortunate for everyone.

1. fairly recent badger poll has Feingold with decent approval...
"Feingold, who is expected to seek a third six-term next year, received excellent or good ratings from 48 percent of those polled, compared to 37 percent who rated his performance as fair or poor."

Considering that something like 30-35% of the population is people who won't vote for any Democrat, I'd say Feingold's chances look decent, especially given an energized Democratic population who wants to get rid of Bush..

2. Hello
This may be of interest only to my fellow Wisconsin people, on the other hand losing Russ Feingold would be unfortunate for everyone.

I'm out of New York City. I'm very pro-Feingold:)
I feel that he is one of the few that actually represent me.

3. I Finally Got To Meet Him...
...a couple of weeks ago when he visited this county. It had to be stressful for him, knowing that this is GOP territory. There were a couple of stealth Republicans in the audience, including the chairwoman of the Republican district. He held up well and made a great case for his votes against the Patriot Act and Medicare. The GOP is trying to beat him (again) on the grounds that he's a radical left winger, but I don't think it'll work (again). He's a nice person, very down-to-earth, not phony.

5. Me too.
He should be OK as long as they aren't using those extremist created "voting" machines. We can't afford anymore "surprises" kinda like they had in Georgia in 2002.
