Push-polling the "defense of marriage"
I received a "robo-call" last night from an organizations whose name I cannot remember. The questions all concerned same-sex marriage:
  • Do you think that a marriage should only be between a man and a woman?

  • Do you want the opportunity to vote for a constitutional amendment that would degine a marriage as a union between a man and a woman?

  • Do you consider yourself a Republican? A Democrat?

  • Would you be less likely to vote for a politician who supports same-sex marriages? More likely? Would the issue of same-sex marriage not influence your vote?

2. My answers
  • No (I do not think a marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman).

  • No (I do not want the opportunity to vote on a constitutional amendment defining a marriage as a union between a man and a woman).

  • No (I am not inclined to vote for a Republican). Yes (I am inclined to vote to a Democrat).

  • No (I would not be less likely to vote for a candidate who supports same sex marriage). No (I would not be more likely to vote for a candidate who supports same sex marriage). Yes (the issue of same-sex marriage would not influence my vote).

I have been troubling over my last answer, as it did not quite express what I intended at the time. I wanted to say that it was not a priority for me, but that I would respect a candidate who supported same-sex marriage. Too bad I cannot take it back.

4. this whole marriage thing is so bizarre
The right wing goons say they love marriage so much they want to limit it. And I guess it is such a wonderful institution ( many people choose other options) that it needs to be protected. I mean, I like being married, but this seems like another absurd bit of propaganda. If gay couples want to get married, let them! Why do people care? Why do the RW goons need a constitutional amendment? Why don't they just get a life! GRRRR
