Coattails: when should our nominee start attacking ALL repugs?
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 02:02 PM by stopbush
Let's face it, even if we win the WH, our guy will have his hands tied if the Congress is still controlled by knuckle draggers like Tom Delay.

There's a crescendo building in America, and it's fueled by an orchestra and chorus of dissatisfaction with bush. But the larger truth is that bush's lies and criminal activities have been aided and abetted by a Congress controlled by his party. That needs to be made clear to the American electorate. There are many, many issues that have arisen over the past three years where Dems have stood up to bush only to be shouted down and defeated by bush's minions in Congress. If bush had been bargaining with a Dem-controlled Congress, the country would be in a whole different place than where we are - ie: disgraced and marginalized in the court of world opinion and imploding on the domestic front.

Other presidents have made the case to "give me a Congress that will help me help you." Our nominee can say in all truth and candor, "look, the country gave the republicans their chance. You handed the republicans a prosperous nation that was at peace with the world, a country leading the world to a better tomorrow. The republicans promised that they could do better. But from the get-go, THIS president and his ideologues in the WH and in the Congress sought to take this country in the opposite direction, and it has been a disaster for us and the world. The country needs a 180º sea change, and this ship of state needs a new captain at the helm and a new crew in the Congress to fix the absolute mess the republicans have made of our economy and our future."

What do you think?

2. Hammer the GOP Congress Before The Formal Nomination
The Democratic presidential nominee-apparent should start hammering the Republican-controlled House and the Republican-controlled senate as soon as he has enough delegates to win the nomination. He should continue hammering the Republican-controlled Congress throughout his campaign and hopefully until enough Republicans are sent packing in 2006. What has been done to this country isn't a solo act by the Boosh administration, it is the culmination of a campaign organized and fought by vicious right-wing Republican partisans for over twenty years now.

I agree with other posters--if the Democrats gain the White House while failing to gain the House of Representatives, the best Democrats can hope for is something like the Clinton administration--a stalemate. Tom DeLay probably realized that, too. That was another reason why he and his creatures forced through the redistricting in Texas last year.

Progressive partisans would be making a mistake just to personalize the state of the Republic with George Deucey-U Bush. It isn't just George UU Bush--it's the GOP as a whole.

3. Absolutely correct!!!
I'm almost of a mind that I'd rather have the Senate than the White House. The Senate can stop criminal legislation and, most important, call hearings with subpoena power and open up the damage that Bush - and the neo-con controlled Republican Party!!! - did to all of us. Even if the House stays Republican, the heat from Senate hearings will force their hands to act - on impeachment! Wouldn't that be delicious.

And don't wait until we have a nominee. All Democrats, whether running for the White House or not, should be screaming RIGHT NOW about everything these thugs have been doing for years; from the economy, public health, energy, corporate give-aways, media, re-districting, breaking into private computer files, Patriot Act, judicial nominees, TIPS, Repub campaign contributors with off-shore tax havens doing business with blacklisted countries, the destruction of America's reputation in the world, environment, the revolving door of lobbyists - to public service - to lobbying again, and awarding contracts to companies caught defrauding the government, - And that's my short list!

START NOW!!!!
