Halliburton correction -Jeb screws education - Fear of Bush
Halliburton correction -Jeb screws education - Fear of Bush

The 1918 New Method Oil Well Cementing Co. started by Erle Halliburton - now known just as the $13 billion annual income Halliburton - was given by Bush41/Cheney the first cost plus "SUPERCONTRACT" - the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program contract - or LOGCAP in 1992 and never since been without such status. BUT - The OFFICIAL LOGCAP went to DYN-CORP in 1997 - but without Halliburton being removed from that role as to the responsibities for the Balkan war area. And Surprise, Surprise, under Bush 43 in Dec 2001 the LOGCAP contract went back to Halliburton!

I had known Halliburton was into the Balkans under LOGCAP and never left - so I assumed it was the only LOGCAP winner since 1992 - but Clinton tried to change things a bit in 1997, was apparently blocked as to the Balkans - and with the GOP back, Halliburton is our USA Augmentation (I love that word) king - WORLDWIDE - again. Sorry for saying Halliburton was the only "Supercontractor" in a post late last week.

The above from the Sunday ST. Pete Times:

Also from the Times, an editorial on no child left behind under Jeb Bush - where Jeb refused to let the Florida Legislature fund a new Florida class size reduction law/constitutional directive passed in the popular vote (because he did not want to raise taxes to get the money in a state that ranks 45th in education per capita spending) - funding it out of the regular education budget, so 32 school districts did not get enough money to implement the law via Jeb's funding for the new class size law, and now Jeb has his education commissioner demanding sanctions against those 32 districts in the form of even less money this year! And Jeb now cites the first years failure and the coming sanctions as proof the class size law must be repealed lest taxes be raised. CATCH-22 UNDER A Bush

Another fun read from the Times was a "those Democrats seem to eat their own" item where a Philip Gailey asserts that Democratic Party members are crazy - or in his words have a "pathological loathing" for Bush43. This led to a letter to the editor by Eileen O'Sullivan in the Sunday Times which was a great response that points out that it is sensible to loath that which terrifies!

I agree that is sensible to loath that which terrifies. Fear for what Bush is doing to our rights as Americans, fear for how he wants his mullahs ruling on womens medical treatments, fear for Bush's vision of less accessible health care for our children, less education for our children as he pases laws for photo op's that he then underfunds, fear for the destruction of the social security safety net and Medicaid safety net as he bankrupts us in order to make their continuation as is unlikely, Fear he breaks the law via secret Energy Commission meetings, while refusing to enforce the law re Florida election fraud or his friends like Ken Lay at ENRON. Fear of an arrogant man who has the media trained to repeat his claim to humility and say nothing, and who doesn't realize his arrogant attitude toward other countries has has lost us allies, and thus made us less safe, in the war against the new Bin Ladens his lack of diplomacy skills have spawned - indeed someone who does not understanmd that the diplomacy that obtained the Libya agreement without war was on its way via intrusive inspections in Iraq to containging and ending Saddam's rule. Indeed folks that have resisted conspiracy theories all their life are beinning to find it easier to believe that Bush had prior knowledge of 911 - obviously not of that magnitude - and was willing to allow the death of a "few" so as to get on with getting public opinion behind his desire to go after the "guy who tried to kill my father".

As to primary battles, Thank God I am in a party that doesn't require folks to be silenced or ostracized for not having the Rove/Bush opinion of the week. A pity our media has chosen the other side of free speech and is helping to inforce the GOP call to ostracize.

Indeed, last week during the week we had lies about Dean - and on Sunday talk the GOP, with no contrary or cautionary comments by the pundits, was into saying Dean lies, changes position, etc. - as if it was true - with no explanation - and with no context. The Gore approach the media bought in 2000 only to find they spent a year repeating GOP lies - is again with us. I wonder if the media will be embarrased this time.

quiet times!

:-)

And nothing about the catch 22 of lying about funding education, then punishing the schools because you lied, and then having the media report the events as though you were really working hard on improving education (Tampa TV had Jeb saying how this year we will improve the middle school education - and not one analytic comment about how big a lie his past performamce has been - and how this year a start on improving any part of Florida education would welcome).
