"American Candidate" TV show: Vote for my friend
My friend requests your vote:

I've applied for a project, that, should I be chosen, will allow me to bring
our concerns to the national debate.

I was listening to one of my favorite NPR shows, "On the Media," the February
when producer RJ Cutler ("The War Room," "American High") was on talking
about his current television project. Called "American Candidate," it will
assemble a diverse group of Americans to wage a mock-presiential campaign on the
issues, complete with speeches, debates, rallies, and strategy sessions. As well
as providing an inside look at how to wage a political campaign, the show hopes
to bring new voices and perspectives forward, increase awareness of the
issues, and galvanize voter registration.

Along with 500 other hopefuls, I completed an exhaustive questionnaire on the
issues, made a 20-minute tape with platform speech, and was given a web page
on which to showcase my platform and from which to garner grassroots
support.Right now I am ranked 19 among 62 women, and it is crucial that I show I can
galvanize a diverse constituency, and that I crack the top 10 to make it to the
next round of eliminations.

My platform is populist progressive. As a low-income, uninsured artist and
freelance writer/editor, I want to increase awareness of disenfranchized
citizens' needs, elevate the arts, culture, and education on the national agenda,
fight corporate strangleholds on intellectual and technological property rights,
revamp social programs to align with our changing demographic and increasingly
frelance/contract workforce, and promote economically responsible,
sustainable growth.I'm extremely well informed, articulate, and passionate.

While it is certain that not all members of this community would agree with
my issue statements, I do believe that we all agree that democracy benefits
from robust dissent, vigorous debate, and full citizen participation.I need your
support.

The page provides a short explanation of the project and my motivation for
becoming involved, and a link to the show's support web page for me. On that
latter page are links to my writing and a campaign blog.

Every single vote makes a difference, and I thnk you in advance for reading
this and taking the time to visit. Even if you vehemently disagree with my
political platform, I believe, from perusing the other candidates' pages and
postings on the show's message boards, that I may be the most articulate,
compelling, and informed proponent of my ilk, and thus could add robust, substantive
debate. If the show chooses similarly passionate libertarians and conservatives,
this show could be extremely informative for Americans and foster citizen
engagement.

Thank you,
Heather Fenby
