Atlanta paper ballot hearing tomorrow!
(This is like the NCAA tournament in that we have to win every step of the way in order to move on.)

Update for those who may have missed the last episode: SB 500, which would mandate a paper ballot for Georgia voting machines, has passed the Senate, and is now in the House Governmental Affairs Committee. The Chair of that committee has apparently vowed to let the bill die there.

Latest update: The Gov't Affairs Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow, March 31, on bill S.B.500 in their Elections Subcommittee at 2pm (OR upon adjournment of the House) at the LOB building room 506. The public will (allegedly) be allowed to speak.

If you can make it down there, this is the moment we need to exert some force to get this thing out of committee and onto the floor.

This bill isn't perfect- it has some bad amendments attached to it, but my feeling is we have to trust our insiders to get that part fixed. Not only that, when the public speaks in favor of this bill, they are speaking in favor of paper ballots- not delays or tricks to avoid paper ballots. This message must get through.

Unfortunately, Repubs are supporting the bill and Dems are opposing, purely (as far as I know) because the 'Pubs think it will make our (Dem) Sec. of State look bad, and the Dems are opposing it because of the same thing. We must convince these legislators that this is too important for petty political games.

I sent a message to the chairman of the committee essentially saying he sure was going to be embarrased when some hacker makes Mickey Mouse win an election and we can't recount anything because HE had the chance to make this right and DIDN'T!

Saddle up and git on downtown if you can make it!
My thanks on behalf of all Georgia citizens!

PS- Here's a link to the committee contact information in case you can't make it downtown.

2. Rescheduled!
The hearing has been rescheduled to 10:00 AM
Thursday, Room 216 in the CAPITOL

The Capitol, NOT the Leg. Office Bldg. as before.

I doubt if will be able to make it, but I hope I can. Rumor is that it could be entertaining.
