Join Team DU in Washington DC on April 25th for the March for Women
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 09:16 AM by LynneSin

Join Team Democratic Underground in Washington DC for the “March for Women”

We are organizing a Democratic Underground delegation in Washington DC for the March for Women on Sunday April 25th, 2004. We’re looking for twenty or more DUers to join our delegation and march behind the Democratic Underground banner.

We plan to meet in DC at 11:00am (we have people coming in that day from out of town) at a location to be determined. From there we’ll organize and join the rally in DC.

If you are interested in joining the Democratic Underground delegation, please send a private message to me here at DU with your real name and email address that we can contact you and how many people you will be bringing (you are welcomed to bring friends & family members along with you). While you are at it, also register for the March for Women at http://www.marchforwomen.org for more information about the rally in DC.

We have 8 people in our delegation right now but I know we can easily get 20+ people from the Democratic Underground to march for women. I hope to hear from everyone soon!

LynneSin
Organizer, DU’s March for Choice Delegation

Edit Note: We will be having a Philly gathering the day before (april 24th) and we have a few folks who have volunteered to drive and take a few folks with them for the next day to the rally

19. Go to the Planned Parenthood Website.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois, that is.

Or, e-mail them at email them at actioncenter@ppfa.org.

You can get a bus ticket to ride to the march with the Chicago Area Chapter of Planned Parenthood. That is what I am doing. I paid for it with my PayPal account. It costs $125.00 for the bus ticket.

You don't need to pay for lodgings -- they are driving straight through and back again.

It will be a great day! I hope you ride with us.

18. ReDefeat Bush to Hold Tuesday Night Democratic Club
WHAT: ReDefeatBush.com, a new federal PAC, will continue its campaign to register one million new Democrats nationwide with its fourth weekly event in Washington, D.C. Volunteers will gather to phone and write unregistered residents of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

WHEN: From 6 to 9 p.m. EST, Tuesday, March 23, 2004.

WHERE: Spy Lounge (next to Felix), 2406 18th Street, NW, Washington, D.C., near the intersection of Belmont Rd. in Adams Morgan.

This is a fourth weekly event at the same location. Volunteers have contacted over 1,000 households each of the previous weeks and are becoming increasingly efficient and effective. ReDefeatBush.com is preparing to expand in the coming weeks to locations in the DC suburbs, New York, and San Francisco.

The Committee to ReDefeat the President is an independent expenditure committee not affiliated with any candidate. Headquartered on the Internet at www.redefeatbush.com , its purpose is to effectively channel volunteer activities into political action that will defeat President Bush. It raises money through online contributions, events, and the sale of merchandise, including buttons, bumper stickers, T-shirts, lawn signs and condoms.

In cooperation with other organizations, it sponsors a nationwide Tuesday Night Democratic Club. At these gatherings, activists with cell phones make phone calls to households that are likely to register as Democrats but are not currently registered to vote, and those without cell phones write letters to the voters who cannot be successfully contacted by telephone. Concentrating on a handful of key battleground states, ReDefeatBush will organize 20,000 volunteers to register on average 50 new Democratic voters each, totaling a million new voters by election day 2004.

Come join us in D.C.! If you have a cell phone, please bring it! RSVP to events@redefeatbush.com or 202-329-7847 so we know how many people to expect, and please forward this message to your friends!

To get involved in New York, San Francisco, or anywhere else in the United States, go to http://redefeatbush.com and sign up to stay informed of future events or to help organize them.

ReDefeatBush.com operates on proceeds from the sale of ReDefeatBush merchandise, available online at http://www.redefeatbush.com/store

Media inquiries should be addressed to David Swanson via Email to swanson@redefeatbush.com or by calling 301-772-0210.

I don't envy you!

I did the bus overnight thing driving from Texas to Iowa for Dean in January, and it was miserable.

Especially Kansas. All I remember from that 6 AM stop (after driving around lost in Oklahoma City at 3 AM to change drivers) is the MALL of truck stops in the middle of nowhere with the McDonald's and the sunflower adirondack chairs.

Anyone know the place I'm talking about?

46. Information of where we are meeting in DC
To be honest - I DON'T HAVE A CLUE

But the good news is it'll be somewhere on the national mall.

The organizers are laying out a map with all the official delegations located in it. All you need to do is contact a March Volunteer and they will give you directions to your delegation.

ACK!!!!!

I've talked with the co-ordinator and she assured me that we are on the list as a delegation (hey, I paid $125 for the banner with our website name on it). She also knows that I will not be showing up with 20+ folks but they will be coming from all over the country to march with us. She said there are other delegations very similiar to ours.

What I will do is post our exact location as soon as I know it. HOwever, I might not know the location until the day of the March - which means I'll call someone from DU who I know is not at the March and asked he/she to post the location. Plus I'll make sure my cell phone number is available to anyone who PM's and asks me.

However, worst case scenario is this: You have no clue where to go on the day of the March so you simply find one of the volunteers who sole purpose in life is to tell you where you delegation is located. Then you tell them you belong to the Democratic Underground delegation and that's where you go.

Simple enough? I hope so cause I know I'm panicking

Lynne

I'm meeting with the Democratic Women at DNC headquarters. At least that's my plan. I've been told that there will be volunteers EVERYWHERE with information as to where everyone should be. It sounds very well organized.

The group I'm riding down with is disbursing so people can march with whichever group they want. We'll get Metro cards and I printed out the subway map. We're parking at RFK Stadium; they aren't letting busses into DC.

We're getting sashes reminscent of the early suffragettes and signs from the DNC. This should be a very serious march. Too bad Chimpy will probably be at Camp David or the pig farm. Rumor has it Kerry "may" show up.

So I'd look for them!

Dr. Dean will be making an appearance. That's good enough for me!

I talked to Janeane Garofalo backstage at Dean's appearance in Ames, Iowa in January, and she said she was going to be there. Plus, you know regulars like Kathleen Turner will be too.
What a day we're going to have!

taking a bus with a local college Feminist majority group. We are parking at a metro stop and taking metro into downtown.

Whoopie is suppose to mc.
Dean is there to march with Democracy for America which is about 1000 people.

When you get to the mall, you can ask volunteers where a group is meeting and they will direct you.

have fun everyone.
I have never done this and really am looking forward to march for women.

Too bad more of us did not support the ERA back when that was introduced. Equal rights for women. They used all kinds of propoganda to get people against it. Most of the negative now exists. Like women in the service and being elible for a draft.

Should be a great day for women. We will make the news for sure.

I can't believe all the people coming from all over the place to this event. This is terrific.
George Bush has really united Women. We are together now.
