Activism Against Insurance Companies
Any activists out there investigating the unfairness of insurance companies. Especially concerning filing claims from an auto accident. I'm neck deep fighting for a settlement from a car accident and my insurance company is using my past against me. Any adivce or links to sites I can get any help? My lawyer is terrified of my insurance company.

1. If your lawyer is
scared sh*#less of your insurance company--it is time to get a NEW lawyer.

2. Ya but but but
Then I have to pay him, plus the second lawyer and so far the offer from the insurance company doesn't even cover my losses.

3. Can't help with your particular situation, but I definitely practiced

a little activism against Allstate Insurance yesterday.

Had been with them for about 20 years. I used to be a real estate agent and was in a position to refer a lot of business to them, which I did.

Yesterday I changed our family's auto insurance policy to Progressive (who did actually save me a considerable amount of money). Then I had the pleasure of calling our former Allstate agent to cancel the old policy. I could hardly wait until he got around to asking me why. I told him that I found Allstate's practice of using credit scoring to jack up the rates for otherwise excellent customers despicable, but that when I found out how much Allstate contributed to the Republican party, and that Progressive supports a lot of progressive causes, the decision was just too easy to make.

4. What was his response?
Did he cry, or snicker. I had one of the more expensive insurance coverage with a company owned by American Financial. Once would expect that after paying premiums for several years that they would cover you in an accident. What I found out is, we are not being covered for pain and suffering. We are near bankrupsty and our credit sucks now due to financial devastation. Looks like we'll get slammed with higher rates due to our bad credit which was caused by the insurance company not settling, and then offering such a lowball figure it's not worth settling.

5. He seemed a little incredulous that I would be
changing due to political reasons. They've been doin that sort of thing for years, but I doubt it works against them often enough.

6. please don't..
I work for an insurance company...and I'll be the first to go when they get sued.

Just curious...What exactly is your past and how are they using it to determine the settlement?

7. Here's a list of badfaith insurance companies
http://www.badfaithinsurance.org/indexdetaillist.html

In response to my past. History of depression, attending 12 step meetings, previous car accident injuries not related to current injury (very difficult to prove on my part). My insurance company is claiming that I do not have permanent injuries as a result of the most recent accident, although for 13 years up until my accident I ran 8 miles a day, hiked Mt. Washington at least once a month, was a gym junkie and in excellent shape. They will not accept my chiropractor's diagnosis of permanent injury, although they have paid for chiropractic adjustments. The link above is very informative about insurance company practices and how they beat the insurer into settling for minimum payments. Two of every 100 claims win in court because they had the financial ability to hold out for years and fight. In order to win, they sign a gag statement promising not to discuss the settlement in any way, shape or form.
