Moveon.org commercial to air during Super Bowl?

I just received an email from the moveon.org voter fund that basically stated that if they reach their goal of 10 million in donations, they will be able to air "Child's Pay" during the most watched TV broadcast of the year. This is very exciting and I just got through donating 25 dollars. I urge everyone here to do the same.

2. Welcome. This ad was okay but too soft and too one issue oriented. I

am also concerned about the fact that the creator does not live in the US. Was the spot produced here? I think that the whole process was awesome but we need something much more hard hitting. "Child's Pay" is too subtle for the rove crew of tv watchers. (In my opinion, of course.)

I think "polygraph" and "what are we teaching our children" were much more effective.

4. Why do you thik they chose it. I'm really not happy about this. A chance

to show so many, many lies and that is the one that gets the nod.

5. Horrific idea. Please consider this.

Collect $2 million dollars from thousands of people--money that could rapidly build a movement if invested in the grassroots organizations working for structural change--and hand it over to a transnational corporation in hopes of changing people's minds in one 30 second shot?

I think MoveOn is becoming disconnected from reality. We need to learn from the right wingers--they're kicking our ass because they've invested in sustaining organizations to shift culture and the range of debate.

I implore folks who are considering this to consider funding groups that could change the world with money like that. Here are a few of my favorites, all of which I believe operate on relatively miniscule budgets:

but, is it possible that they are trying to expand their base? With that they might believe they have to offer something mainstream enough to bring in Joe 6-pak and the folks who only watch the SB for commercials.

Anything too radical and they are going to offend a very mainstream audience. If compelling enough, it might encourage folks to come to the site, see what is going on, get on a mailing list and then slowly come to understand how horridly and consistently they have been lied to. I am not certain the average apolitical can take all the information/horror at once.

Is this compelling enough? I hope so.
