For more info: For more info: 515-633-0400 Spend your Sunday afternoon with musicians who are supporters of the democratic presidential candidate for peace Dennis Kucinich! In order to help fundraise and draw attention to Kucinich and his message for peace, several local and national musicians will be performing together in concert at the State of Iowa Historical Building auditorium.
Dennis Kucinich has a strong following of musicians and peace activists. He is the 2003 recipient of the Ghandi Peace Award and has plans to establish a national Department of Peace once elected president. Kucinich plans to attend the event, and it is expected that he will address the audience during the concert.
Event schedule: The concert will follow the public broadcast of the Des Moines Register Presidential Candidate Debate. The debate runs from 2:00 to 4:00pm and will be aired on Iowa Public Television stations across the state. Concert attendees who want to watch the debate with others can come early (by 2:00pm) to ensure a seat and to watch the debate via television in the Historical Building Auditorium. Afterwards, there will be time to browse the tables with information about Dennis Kucinich, register to vote, and learn about the upcoming Iowa Caucus and how to become involved.
Concert details: The concert will be from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Nationally touring musician Ellis is hosting the event. She will be joined by local musician James Biehn (of the band Hyde Park) and Minneapolis acoustic musician Rachel Nelson. Other musicians will be added as they are confirmed. The musicians performing at the concert are not the first to publicly endorse Kucinich for President. Other well-known endorsers include Ani DiFranco, Willie Nelson, Michelle Shocked and Bonnie Raitt. Local peace-oriented political action committee StarPac also officially endorsed Kucinich for president.
Ellis is a nationally touring folk rock musician and peace activist.
