United for Peace: March on Washington
Join Activists on Saturday in DC

United for Peace and Justice has organized a National Rally and March to take place on Saturday, the 27th of January, 2007. Activists will meet on the National Mall between 3rd and 7th Streets to attend the rally scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Immediately following the rally, the march around the city will begin.

Because attendance is expected to be high, those interested are urged to take a metro bus into the city in order to avoid driving disasters. The official website for the DC Metro is www.wmata.com, and maps of the Metro areas are available there.

Each trip will cost $2.35 each way, $4.70 round trip. An overview of the lines are as follows:

Green Line out of Greenbelt
Red Line out of Shady Grove
Orange Line out of Vienna
Green Line from Branch Ave.

As stated on the official United for Peace and Justice website, citizens are encouraged to bring with them to the rally white roses, to send a specific symbolic message to Congress. This message will refer to the White Rose resistance movement in Nazi Germany - "We Will Not Be Silent." More information on this movement as it relates to a current national campaign can be found at www.thecriticalvoice.org.

United for Peace offers advice for participating activists on other items people should bring to DC for the Rally/March:

The forecast is 45 and sunny, but be prepared for any sudden changes. Dress in layers!
Bring snacks and water, as their availability is low in the mall area.
Drums/Noisemakers will help energize and keep the spirit of the activists up.
Any banners or signs. Posters will be available, but if you would like to represent your area, it might be a good idea to make your own signs depicting where your community.

If you have an excellent cable or better yet T1 connection, you can view several different Traffic WebCams (shows a particular intersection) of the entire D.C. area. Tomorrow I'm going to enjoy - it will be the second best thing to being there. :-)

7. I will be present by support only

I ran into an old friend two days ago at the grocery store and she was over joyed to tell me she was heading to Washington this weekend to join in with the UFP org. This was her first protest and she felt, as I do, that the time has come to stand toe to toe with the criminals murdering our soldiers.
All I could do was offer a bit of cash and my support since I can not possibly get away at this time.
I plan on heading to www.unitedforpeace.org as soon as I post this and offer more financial support and urge all who read this to do so as well.
