Spanish-Speaking volunteers- Let's monitor Boston sell-out channel for indecency
Now that the local Air America affiliate has "failed" to find a market for progressive-democratic radio in a market that's 85% Democratic, they have switched to a Spanish-Language format to serve the 5% of the state that speaks Spanish.

We need Spanish-speaking volunteers to monitor AM 1200 and AM 1430 for indecency.

From The Moonie Times:

FCC overlooks Spanish radio stations in crackdown
By Chris Baker
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The Federal Communications Commission has ignored the racy antics on Spanish-language radio during its crackdown on broadcasting material that the agency deems indecent.

<snip>

During the first four months of 2004, the FCC has proposed six indecency fines totaling $1.5 million, all against English-language broadcasters. All but $27,500 of these fines were aimed at radio stations that air programs such as "The Howard Stern Show," which tend to feature sexually suggestive conversations and comedy bits.

"Spanish-language radio has gone way beyond Howard Stern. Some of these guys do and say things that would embarrass Howard Stern," said Alex Nogales, president and chief executive of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, a Los Angeles group that seeks to improve the image of Hispanics in the United States.

<snip>

Ms. Navarrete said the FCC lacks the manpower to investigate complaints about these programs. The agency has one Spanish speaker among its 20 staff investigators, although it has the power to hire outside translators to help it review complaints against Spanish-language programs.

2. Wage the battle on two fronts
1) Advocate for a restoration of Progressive-Talk radio in Boston.
2) Punish the fuck out of the bastards that did this.

3. I really don't approve of any indecency police no matter where
it comes from. Sorry. It's too subjective and who is the guy who says it embarrasses Howard Stern? Has anyone asked Howard? Does Howard speak Spanish?

5. Has gone way beyond Howard Stern??

I think close, very close. A few years back I was listening to the radio on my way home and I got to this Spanish station talk show. I could not believe what I was listening. The language was very explicit and close to graphic, the kind that would not be tolerated in English talk shows. I didn't liked the show so I changed it. I think is not the FCCs business to censure programing. If someone doesn't like certain shows they should just change the damn channel or boycott whoever is buying advertisement from the radio station. I am an adult and I make my own choices on what should I, my family or kids listen on the radio or watch on the TV... in ENGLISH, ARABIC, SPANISH, or JAPANESSE, etc.

"Now that the local Air America affiliate has "failed" to find a market for progressive-democratic radio in a market that's 85% Democratic, they have switched to a Spanish-Language format to serve the 5% of the state that speaks Spanish." Well... tough luck. What now? Hispanics are taking over the RADIO??? Obviously there is a market for the Hispanics audience so instead of being COMPLAINING about it why not take advantage of that market? No wonder a big segment of the Hispanics aren't interested in politics since in a way they are being REJECTED by the Anglos. The Hispanic vote is taken for granted just the same as the African American, etc. That is why that 5% of the Hispanics care about their radio shows more than the 85% of all the Democrats care about their message. They (Hispanics) know how to stick together when everyone is beating down on them.
