1. Webb up by 8
Democrat Jim Webb has surged ahead of Republican George Allen in the last poll of the campaign, conducted for News-7 by SurveyUSA.

The survey shows Webb with 52% of the likely voters, with 44% going to Allen.

In five previous SurveyUSA tracking polls, the race was a virtual tie with Allen slightly ahead. Other late polls show the race much closer. A Mason-Dixon poll released over the weekend had Webb ahead by a point, and a Gallup poll released today has Allen up by three.

The SurveyUSA poll also shows 42% support for the Marriage Amendment, but with 22% still uncertain over how they'll vote. Thirty-six percent say they'll vote against it.

SurveyUSA interviewed 1,000 Virginia adults from November 3 through November 5. Of them, 840 were registered to vote. Of them, 741 were judged to be "likely" voters. Survey details reflect Likely Voters.

5. Ellsworth ---
You are dialing into deepest, reddest Indiana -- the following represents the real issues...

Family Values: I’ll protect our families. In my house, we were raised by my parents, not our television. Strong communities are anchored in strong families. I learned that church is about our community as much as it is our faith. This is important in this community and it’s important in my family. The church helps all of us decide who we are. We’re all weak in our own ways, but I believe that none of us is so weak that we’re beyond hope. The church has guided my life and my career. I believe in justice, I believe in hope, I believe in salvation, and I believe in the value of life in all its forms, not just what people say to get elected.

Terrorism: The flag is an ideal, not a piece of cloth. There’s not a person here that wouldn’t lay down their life for it, and thank God for those overseas who do. We certainly didn’t start this war with the terrorists, and until it’s won I’m going to support the brave men and women fighting it. That means weapons, equipment, and support here at home. They’re laying it all on the line for us, and they deserve nothing less in return.

Crime: I’ll protect our communities. I’ve been a cop for almost 25 years now, and I can tell you that today we face challenges I would have never dreamed of when I started. I know better than most the dangers that threaten to break up our communities: a coarse popular culture that assaults the values we try to teach our children, meth labs popping up near our schools, and gangs moving in from the big cities because they smell opportunity. When I go to Washington I’m going keep on fighting these things with the same passion I’ve had for the last 25 years. I know we can’t afford not to.

Retirement/Social Security

I’ll protect an honest day’s work. Accountability and fairness are values, not a dream. Do your job, save every penny you can, and you deserve the pension and secure retirement you’ve earned.

I’ll protect Social Security. Social Security is a guaranteed benefit. Privatization removes the guarantee and reduces the benefit. I will work to strengthen Social Security and oppose any plan that threatens it.

10. Curious
At one point yesterday I was calling for Congressional candidates in Conn. Right now I'm doing the same. What I don't understand is why the script isn't saying "and vote for Lamont for Senate". When I did NJ Menendez was tacked on to the congressional candidate.

3. Bio from his website
Webb on the issues including Iraq:

For more than two years, Jim Webb has been proposing a formula that might lead to the end of our occupation of Iraq. The first step would be for this Administration to say unequivocally that our country has no desire to occupy Iraq in the long term. It has not done so... Congress should make sure of this by banning any expenditure for permanent bases in Iraq.

The second step would be for us to begin immediate discussions with those countries that are culturally and historically invested in Iraq, and arguably aligned with us, to become overtly involved in a diplomatic solution, taking responsibility at some level for future stability among Iraq’s competing factions. This is do-able.

4. Now we're on to Joe Courtney.
I'm just going to do a quick DU-Search each time we switch candidates.

7. Thanks! LOL! Now, something is going wrong with my browser...
When I click on "Leave a message," it's now just switching me to the next phone number, rather than the script we're supposed to leave on the answering machine.

Argh!

8. It seems to be working correctly again. And now I'm on Diane Farrell.
This is pretty cool!

I'm calling EVERYWHERE!

Beware, answering machines... I have your number, and I want your masters to vote Democrat.

Arise, machines!

Arise!

9. Oops, MoveOn didn't screw-up the answering machine script. I did.
Apparently, if someone already left a message on their machine, MoveOn prompts you, "Don't leave a message. Someone else already did."

I need to learn to pay more attention.
