The touch-screen voting equipment will be on display for the public Oct. 4 during the Franklin Heritage Festival in either the Courthouse or Courthouse Annex, Jones-Matthews said. The equipment cannot be displayed outdoors, she noted, as sunlight can damage the screens.

On Oct. 14, the equipment will be set up for the residents at Greenwood Village South, Jones-Matthews said. Talks are ongoing about having touch-screen demonstrations at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Franklin. Other displays for the public are planned.

RedEagle brings up some good points in the above thread for the press, public, and govt officials about HAVA non compliance:

Here's where you can get the text of HAVA.

There are provisions for filing complaints about non-compliance, at least at the state level and should be federal too.

I don't have time to go through the thing right now, but I'd consider the fact that the iVotronic does not produce a voter-verified paper ballot in violation of HAVA's requirements for a:

Permanent paper record with audit capacity.

It takes a voter-verified ballot to get audit capacity with these systems.

Then, tell the press they're not HAVA compliant, if your state is using HAVA money.

Otherwise, perhaps the fraud angle, because you cannot prove these machines are secure? "

Also Bev posted some good questions too on a thread that I forgot to bookmark from a couple weeks ago. Maybe someone can send these officials the Salon.com story from yesterday too.

1. some good questions for anybody going
http://avirubin.com/vote/questions.html

and questions I'd like to see posed to our election officials (crediting to Bev):

- According to Mark Radtke of Diebold, even though the SAIC report identified over 300 flaws, 26 of them critical, THEY ARE NOT FIXING THE MACHINES IN CALIFORNIA or GEORGIA or anywhere else they are using them.

- The SAIC tested a system that has NEVER been used in ANY election and is not even certified yet. They wanted to keep this a secret so they redacted the version number out! I believe what they tested was the touch screen AccuTouch TSx system and the high speed central count program -- There is no other reason to have redacted the version numbers, WHICH ARE REQUIRED TO BE ON THE NASED LIST.

- If there were over 300 security flaws and 26 critical ones (and that doesn't even include ANY of the optical scan systems by Diebold, which the memos show are making all kinds of errors, and it doesn't include the ballot preparation stage or the interface with voter registration) -- anyway:

--- How did this system get certified by Shawn Southworth at Ciber?
--- How did this system get certified by Wyle also?
--- How did this system get passed by Dr. Brit Williams?
--- How did this system get certified by all the state examiners?
--- If Diebold had over 300 security flaws, WHAT ABOUT ES&S which was apparently so similar they had patent lawsuits flying? What about Sequoia? What about Hart Intercivic?

2. Can any Indy DU'ers make this event this coming Saturday?
It would be great to hand out these questions to people before they go in to view the machines. Time to make some noise.
