Al Franken in Austin, TX, Saturday the 13th
This is a reminder to all Austinites that Al will be in town this Saturday to sign copies of his book. For a reason I can't fathom, it won't be at Bookpeople, but rather at Barnes & Noble at the Arboretum. Scheduled start time is 6pm. I hope lots of people show up!

1. B&N at the Arboretum is an AWFUL location!!!
I don't know if we'll make it over there, but I hope you can come to the Patriot Act Town Hall meeting Tuesday night. Will Pitt is the featured speaker.

You can read all about it in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=106&topic_id=2153

Also, Jim Hightower's signing books tonight at Book People. I forgot what time...

2. shitty location

3. The location is somewhat significant, but...
...that parking lot is a nightmare under the best of circumstances, add a large crowd, and someone's gonna need a

4. This is typical of B&N
They have most of their book signings there. They consider that their anchor store. I think it was the first one built in Austin. I would have liked to have seen it at the University area B&N (the former UT Coop). It would have been a better location for Franken but they don't think like that. It will be interesting to see if they get good crowds for Al Franken out in NW Austin.

I'm going to love seeing Al Franken in person. He's been great all over TV and Cable, Letterman and John Stewart's Today Show was really good.

I have the book and it's really good too. If you can't make the signing try to pick up his book and read it.

Jim Hightower is also signing tonight too at BookPeople (603 N. Lamar) Friday 7-9 p.m. for his book "Thieves in High Places".

Then of course our own DU member William Rivers Pitt will be in Austin this coming week, thanks to organizational efforts of GOPisEvil

Tuesday, September 16th, 7:00pm, University of Texas campus, Jester 121 (21st St. @ Speedway, parking in the Brazos Garage 1 block south). This is the second town hall meeting on the Patriot Act, the Victory Act and the Austin City Council Resolution Vote upcoming on these things. This town hall meeting is sponsored by the Texas Bill of Rights Defense Council: www.texasbordc.org

And don't forget to vote on Saturday before you go to the book signing. Vote NO on Prop 12.

5. Just got back from this event
It was packed. B&N said this was their biggest ever book signing event. They must have had 1,000 people in there. It was great. Al was such a sport he said he would stay and sign until the last person wanted their book signed. They had a nice little system. You showed up at 3:00pm and got a alphabet letter and then when you came back at 7:00 they called your letter and you stood in line for book signing by letter. Moved faster and you could go get coffee or browse the store.

He was funny and got lots of laughs and applause. His last comment was please folks do all you can to make sure we get this * guy out of office in '04.
