The Republicans are coming! The Republicans are coming! In September 2004, the Republican party is coming to NYC to renominate George W.Bush and to celebrate their latest conquests and plan for empire in the Middle East. We find their choice of location (NYC) and timing (the 3rd anniversary of the 911 attacks) offensive and a crude attempt to capitalize on them. We will show the world that NYC is not united behind the Republican's war-mongering agenda.

2. Pay for it...

This should be a time of serious protest. And I have a wild suggestion: because New York is so strapped financially, all anti Bush protestors should make a donation to the city when they come. In fact whoever organizes the thing should make that part of the program...not only will it be great PR, but it will rob the enemy of an attack line that the potestors are taking resources away fom a city trying to defend itself. Would you pay $5 for the right to rain on their fickin' parade? $20...$30?

4. I don't know about that

The better thing to do might be to raise money for the 9/11 scholarship fund that Clinton and Dole have organized. Raising money for the city to pay for the extra police protection would be conceeding to the Right their notion that people need "permission" to protest and that people must pay for the "privilege" to criticize their government. That sets a dangerous precedent for free speech in general.

5. This is gonna be good!

I think all we Democrats should make hotel reservations in NYC for the week of the RNC convention, but make them early! Let's fill up all the hotel rooms, and leave them out "in the cold"! We'll find out how creative they are. Can we get all 50 million Gore voters to volunteer to go protest, and occupy a hotel room?
