Call from my Congressman's office re: Flag burning letter I sent
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 03:13 PM by SCDem
I just got a call from Congressman Spratt's office regarding my letter that I set regarding the Flag Burning Ammendment. (I posted it when I sent it a month or so ago). Anyway it was nice to receive a call and he said that Congressman Spratt agreed with everything I said in the letter. And I said I was of course a loyal supporter but just that everyone of us York Dems was probably thinking the same but no one was writing anything even though we all know that Spratt thinks a flag burning ammendment would be absurd. It needed to be written even if he already knows it. And the gentleman said that it is good getting letters like mine else it is all from the other side. I said I hope I wouldn't be left off the next Spratt gathering because of it (in jest of course) and he said no letters like yours we will make sure you're at the next event.

1. What about a computer program that depicted an American
Flag. Then, one of the commands would be to "burn it". Would you be breaking the law? Probably not, because it was only an image. The spirit is the same.

2. Yeah I included that in my letter
and talked about the issues that Americans are actually suffering from... Here is the letter.

I am writing to you today concerned about your vote on the flag
desecration ammendment.

And preventing flag-burning will help the nation...how? Hey, if someone
has one of the magnetized flags on their car, and I hit it in an
accident, is that flag-desecration? Or is it desecration only if their
car catches on fire?

I know that you know that 40 million Americans lack health insurance,
that the cost of a senseless war is one that my grandchildren will be
still paying off and burdened by, that a significant effort is being
made to undermind our public education system (the backbone of our
enlighented democracy). Let's get to work on the actual issues that
are harming Americans.

3. Exactly. Our Congress is "fiddling while Rome burns".
Keep up the good fight.
