My LTTE about "Plamegate"
Over a year ago President Bush stated " I will fire any individuals involved in the Plame affair".
We now know that Karl Rove, Bush's long time friend and who many say is "Bush's Brain", was one of the people that leaked the name of Valerie Plame to numerous reporters, thus outing a CIA operative and her mission; anti-terror investigations in the Middle East. This was done in retaliation to her husband's (Joseph Wilson) findings that there was no truth to the Niger "Yellow Cake" Uranium claim made by the Bush Administration in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. One of these reporters, Judith Miller of the New York Times, is currently in jail for refusing to name her sources regarding this event, although Matthew Cooper of Time Magazine has already named Karl Rove as his source. Why is Mr. Rove allowing this woman to take the fall for him?
Why the "cone of silence" from the White House about this act of Treason? Scott McClellan, the White House Spokesman, assured us in 2003 that Mr. Rove was not one of the "leakers" and that no one wanted to get to the bottom of this more than George Bush himself.
Since then, knowing that Mr Rove is one of the sources, the White House has been loathe to comment on this act of Treason and is once again stonewalling the Media in relation to it.
When will President Bush keep his promise to fire those involved? Why is Karl Rove being protected from the penalties of what amounts to an act of Treason?
I expected more from the Bush Administration when they came into office. "Dignity and Honor" were going to be returned to the White House, remember? There is nothing dignified or honorable in harboring and perhaps even aiding and abetting, a traitor to the United States of America.
Keep your promise Mr. Bush before another cancer starts growing on the Presidency. Fire Karl Rove, now.

I hope it's not too long, they don't like to print long LTTEs, although they will on some occasions. I'm a regular contributor to the LTTE Dept. so they know who I am. I sent this in 2 days ago and it's usually the second day when they call for verification of identity. I should know today. I hope they print it. My first action in the DU Activist Corps. :woohoo:

They just printed one of my letters a few weeks ago, re DSMs, so I do not know if they will print another on so soon. We will see.

2. Nice LTTE!
Here is mine.

"e need more protection for the methods we use to gather intelligence and more protection for our sources, particularly our human sources, people that are risking their lives for their country. Even though I'm a tranquil guy now at this stage of my life, I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious, of traitors." This quote is from George H. W. Bush in a speech at the dedication of the George Bush Center for Intelligence in April of 1999. Why is it then that this sort of scorn does not apply to Karl Rove who apparently disclosed Valerie Plame as a CIA operative? The arrogance of the current administration is astonishing, but perhaps more astonishing is the fact that the American public seems willing to put its head in the sand and ignore the lies and extremely poor leadership of this administration. George Bush should fire Karl Rove based on national security concerns because he puts politics ahead of national security.

If one puts this new scandal together with The Downing Street Memos, the complete lack of any forethought in planning the war in Iraq, the continued struggling economy, the disastrous foreign policy, the lack of true worry for environmental concerns, educational issues and medical insurance reform, one can only surmise that this pompous group is only interested in flaunting its supposed power to impose upon all its supercilious agenda of ignorance.

I took the quote from the great Daily_KOS timeline.

3. Great letter and here's mine
Just e-mailed it a few moments ago. I had also passed it along to a friend of mine who teaches Political Science at a major university...
He loved it and is passing it along to his collegues - he said he felt it should be widely distributed... :)

Feel free to use it for your own LTTE:

To the Editor:

The focus is currently on Karl Rove and what did he say - when did he say it. However, The media is once again missing out on the real story. The big story is not Rove. The big story is why are we in Iraq.

It's been reported Rove's outing of Plame was an attempt to discredit Ambassador Joseph Wilson's statements that there was no connection between Niger-Yellowcake and Iraq/Saddam. This brings us to a larger question - why was it necessary for the White House to discredit Wilson in the first place?

If Wilson was mistaken in his assertion there is no Niger-Iraq connection, then surely the White House had access to information to correct that assertion and would be well served to disclose it to the American people. Instead they chose to smear Wilson's reputation.

Could it be because Wilson was right? If so, wouldn't that question the credibility of Bush's assertion of Saddam, Iraq and WMDs?

In September 2002, the White House began the selling of a new product. Saddam must go, and he must go because he had Weapons of Mass Destruction. Hans Blix led an UN Inspection team into Iraq and found no WMDs. Wilson went to Niger and found no evidence of Iraq trying to buy yellowcake. Yet, Bush insisted we had to invade Iraq because they had WMDs. We know today there were no WMDs even though Rumsfeld had said "..we know exactly were they are...".

We were also told Sadam had connection with Bin-Laden - which later was also found to have no merit.

Next we were told we invaded to liberate the Iraqi people - our troops would be greeted with flowers. It seems the shower of flowers are as elusive as the WMDs.

The latest spin is the "flypaper" strategy - we invaded Iraq to give the terrorists a place to fight so we won't have to fight them at home. Last week's attack in London says otherwise.

Through out this - when a particular excuse has been dispelled - the White House claims it "misspoke", blames someone else and thereby avoids taking responsibility for anything it does.

It's time for investigative journalists to look beyond Rove and start asking the big question - Why are we in Iraq and why is Bush lying about it?

5. Rove Has Put Us All In Danger (My LTTE)
We now know that the Bush administration intended to invade Iraq even before
9/11, and was "fixing the facts around the policy", as it was described in
the Downing Street memo, and that there were no Iraqi weapons of mass
destruction, nor any facilities to build them.

We now know that, as part of the process of "fixing" the facts, Karl Rove
blew the cover of Valerie Plame, an undercover CIA agent. He outed her
"Company" and all of it's "employees" with her. The "Company" a CIA
front. Their real mission was tracking down illicit nuclear weapons and
materials and keeping them out of the hands of terrorists.

Who is doing that job now?

The destruction of Valerie Plame's organization has left us more vulnerable
to a terrorist attack with nuclear weapons than ever before.

Whether or not Rove is convicted of a crime, he should be fired at once.
He has recklessly put us all at risk for the basest of political motives.
