Fox blowhard advocates blowing up Paris. Inform their advertisers!
This can't go on unchecked. Please read the thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1915408&mesg_id=1915408

and then write to the advertisers and tell them "I will not support a company that supports hate TV."

Skin the Fox has a list of advertisers and sample letters. The list was compiled in January but it is ready to go. Thanks for helping spread the word.

5. blowhard is such a good word
I would hate to get called a blowhard. It's so negative sounding. It just reminds me of a big fat white guy who is worthless but keeps bragging about himself as he's sitting on the couch eating potato chips or something, haha.

European nations

German troops. C Ziegler after Conrad Gessner, 1799Early in 1775, the British army consisted of about 36,000 men, but recruitment steadily increased this number. Additionally, over the course of the war about 30,000 German mercenaries (popularly known in the colonies as Hessians because many of them came from Hesse) were hired by the British. Germans would make up about 1/3 of the British troop strength in North America. By 1779, the number of British and German troops stationed in North America was over 60,000, though these were spread from Canada to Florida.3

France, the Netherlands and Spain entered the war against Great Britain in an attempt to dilute Britain's superpower status. France officially entered the war in 1778 and soon sent troops, ships and military equipment to fight alongside the American Patriot army against the British for the remainder of the war. French military involvement in the war proved decisive, though disastrous for the French economy. France's standing army at the time is estimated to have been some 100,000. Spain entered the war in 1779, but did not recognize the new American nation and sent no troops to fight alongside the United States. The Netherlands entered the war late in 1780, but its navy and army was soon overwhelmed by the superior British Royal navy and army.

4. I really hate how they denigrate France.....
I don't have any special love for France or anything, I'm sure they are a great country with great people, but they have been our good friend for a few centuries now. They helped us when our independence -as you stated - gave us the Statue or Liberty, supported us during the Cuban Missile crisis et. al. We fought tooth and nail to end the German occupation their during WW2. Our history with France is a one of great friendship and these guys tear it down. I'm ashamed at that. It bugs me.

7. Regardless of our history with France...
...I wouldn't care if the French were NEVER on the same side as us ----it is horrifying to see a "major media" outlet not only denigrate an entire people but also to wish them harm ... (?) It really defies human decency.

I understood your point: it's never OK and the French history makes it even more offensive:puke:

9. This was disgusting moment in TV "journalism" unparalleled in US history!
Added "Skin the Fox" to my favorites (in the "tools" folder); will draft a letter later today or perhaps tomorrow. Thank you for providing link to a useful tool!

12. I wanted to be sure of the plants where the BMW's are created
and we actually have one in South Carolina.

Here is a URL that lists the plants (mostly in Europe -- which should be a great help to our complaints against Gibson and his stupid remark).

13. Also the FCC - How to Contact
How to Contact the FCC

To Contact the Commissioners via E-mail

Chairman Kevin J. Martin: KJMWEB@fcc.gov
Commissioner Kathleen Q. Abernathy: Kathleen.Abernathy@fcc.gov
Commissioner Michael J. Copps: Michael.Copps@fcc.gov
Commissioner Jonathan S. Adelstein: Jonathan.Adelstein@fcc.gov

My note to the FCC:

Subject: Hate Speech broadcast - FOX NEWS John Gibson

Gibson's recent comments should be interpreted as HATE SPEECH. It's truly disgusting how he is rejoicing at the idea of an attack on the French people and the death and turmoil that would ensue.

The FCC should fine Fox News for hate speech and officially and publicly apologize, Gibson should be fined and/or fired.

Comments:

Fox's Gibson on "golden opportunity" missed: If France had been selected for 2012 Olympics, terrorists would "blow up Paris, and who cares?"

The day before the July 7 terrorist attacks on London buses and subways, Fox News host John Gibson stated that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) "missed a golden opportunity" because, if France had been selected to host the 2012 Olympics, terrorists would "blow up Paris, and who cares?" Following the London attacks, Gibson reiterated that the IOC ought to have selected Paris instead of London, because the British should "let somebody else be worried about guys with backpack bombs for a while."

From the July 6 broadcast of Westwood One's The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly, guest-hosted by Gibson: "By the way, just wanted to tell you people, we missed -- the International Olympic Committee missed a golden opportunity today. If they had picked France, if they had picked France instead of London to hold the Olympics, it would have been the one time we could look forward to where we didn't worry about terrorism. They'd blow up Paris, and who cares?"

From the "My Word" segment of the July 7 edition of Fox News' The Big Story with John Gibson: "The bombings in London: This is why I thought the Brits should let the French have the Olympics -- let somebody else be worried about guys with backpack bombs for a while."

14. Now that is a first rate idea! Here's why:
(I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it.)

Copps and Adelstein spoke several times at National Media Reform Conference in St. Louis in May. They are 100% on OUR side of this. They asked in a number of venues in St. Louis to send them complaints when the media acts up.

After this past week they may have enough examples of harmful, hateful segments to issue some kind of legal action against Fox.

Commissioner Michael J. Copps: Michael.Copps@fcc.gov
Commissioner Jonathan S. Adelstein: Jonathan.Adelstein@fcc.gov

15. So do we e-mail/write these guys about Fox? I ask because
I can't bring myself to threaten Fox advertisers--I refuse to watch Fox under any circumstances. So I think my threats would be kind of hypocritical in theory...

I would be happy to complain to someone that is in a position to help change things, and/or hold these boobs accountable for their insanity.

16. Your don't need to watch in order to take exception to FOX...
You can tell the sponsors that because of how you feel about FOX in general that it textures you attitude toward them (the sponsors). Obviously the fact that they run ads on FOX is available without watching and the fact that you don't watch is that much more powerful... They want to be seen after all.

17. Yes, but let's coordinate it...
Someting like this

The DU activist who represent the opinion of 40,000 activist in this country ask you to talk to the people at Fox and say that this type of needless and childish behavior has got to stop or we will seriously consider spending our advertising dollars elsewhere...

Tell the avertisers that if they do not make some kind of public gesture, we, the DU 40,000, will have to take our business elsewhere...
