We thought you, as a signer of the scientists' statement on restoring scientific integrity in policy making, might be interested in attending a special panel discussion on scientific integrity in environmental policy-making. Speaking at the panel discussion will be: Dr. John P. McTague, former deputy director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy and science advisor to President Reagan; Pedro Nava, CA State Assemblymember with the highest coastal resource protection voting record; Dr. Eric Smith, professor of political science at UCSB whose research focuses on public opinion, elections, and environmental politics; and Andrew Eller, 17-year U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist who has worked for the past 10 years on the Florida Panther Recovery Program. The panel will be moderated Dr. Jeff Dozier, founding Dean and current professor at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management.

At California institutions and across the country, professors from many disciplines are integrating scientific integrity issues into their classes. Students will interact with high-profile scientists, and all participants will be able to take concrete actions to ask decision makers for specific reforms.
