T-shirt plaintiff pushing for trial (MO)
School officials say district's course isn't a policy change
By Derek Spellman

<snip> Lastaysha Myers, 16, sued high-school Principal Stephen Gollhofer and Assistant Principal Jeff Thornsberry after they said two homemade, gay-pride T-shirts she wore to school about five months ago were disruptive and breached the school dress code.

Superintendent Ron Lankford also was named as a defendant in the suit, which was filed April 6 in federal court.

Webb City administrators indicated in late April, however, that they anticipated removing those restrictions after the close of this school year, according to court documents.

Mathewson, a former WCHS student, cheered that news. He sued the school district in November 2004 after administrators told him a pair of his gay-pride T-shirts were disruptive and ran afoul of the school dress code. He withdrew the suit after dropping out of school in December 2004. Myers filed litigation in 2005. <snip>
