<snip> About 30 Stumptown Earth First! demonstrators staged a protest in front of the U.S. Forest Service headquarters on Southwest Second and Stark streets.
The group was protesting the Biscuit Timber Sale in Southern Oregon, which includes salvaging more than 30 square miles of forest damaged in the 2002 Biscuit Fire.
The centerpiece of the protest was a 30-foot-high tripod with a banner reading, "Burned forests are alive - stop Biscuit Timber Sale." A man was suspended from the pinnacle.
"Nonviolent civil disobedience actions, aimed at keeping chainsaws out of the fragile post-burn recovery area, have already resulted in 42 arrests over the past three weeks in the Biscuit logging project. Today Stumptown Earth First! brings the struggle to save the Biscuit and end logging on public lands to the front doors of the USFS regional headquarters in Portland, Oregon," according to a news release by the protest group. <snip>
