A/I Petition against stoning to death of Amina Lawal, northern Nigeria
On 22 March 2002, AMINA LAWAL, a 30 year-old Muslim woman, was sentenced to execution by stoning to death by a Shari'ah court at Bakori in Katsina State in northern Nigeria.

UPDATE 04/06/03:
On 3 June, the hearing of Amina Lawal's appeal was adjourned again until 27 August 2003. According to the registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal of Katsina State, the hearing could not take place due to lack of quorum of members of the tribunal. Two of the judges were reportedly serving on ad-hoc elections tribunals, constituted after general elections in April and May 2003.

CURRENT UPDATE:
Amina's appeal is on August 27. Her case is being assisted by the Spanish branch of Amnesty International, which has posted a petition. By March 4th the petition had amassed over 2,600,000 signatures. It will only take you a few seconds to sign Amnesty's online petition. Please sign the petition now, then copy this message and send it to everyone you can.
