moves forward with a northern california conference; I got this email today: "...if civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationship - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together and work together in the same world, at peace." President Franklin D. Roosevelt
Dear Friends,
Many of us are disappointed with the outcome of our recent election. You're probably thinking right now, "What do I do?" Our answer, get to Berkeley this weekend.
While our work for a Dept. of Peace is as important as ever, it is also critical that we have a greater conversation and begin to strategize around creating a new progressive, democratic peace movement for the sake of generations to come.
We must work unceasingly in the coming years to create a moral counterforce to the overriding thought-forms that prevail within American politics today. Progressive ideals cannot remain just espoused principles and longings in our hearts and minds that we scream out from time to time, but must become a tangible, organized, morally persuasive force. Those who espouse a more conservative moral ideology have spoken loudly this week. It is their right in a democracy to do so, just as it is our right, and our obligation to do so with an even greater force.
We must become a morally persuasive voice for a truly sustainable future that works for all, a voice of peace over violence, a voice of inclusion over exclusion, a voice of truth over deception. A voice for the principles with which this nation was founded: liberty and justice for all.
This is an important time for us to be together. This is not a moment to simply sit and wring your hands; it's time to take action. Come to Berkeley, particularly if you are already in the bay area, please come for at least part of the weekend. Details are below and at: http://www.dopcampaign.org
