White Stripes very scarily addictive
I first got this CD from my cousin. She's graduating from HS this June. Anyway, she raves about these guys saying they're the best band in the world....etc etc. I turned her on to Iggy Pop, Velvet Underground and The Stranglers so she wanted to one up me.

Anyway, I play the CD, and it's OK...nothing great. No bass, just a guitar, a Perry Farrel impersonator and a very simple drumline.

I play it a few times NOW I'M HOOKED. Thanks Nikki....<grumble>

To be honest this album reminds me of Violent Femmes first one...raw, imprecise, angst ridden and like something you'd hear off the streets of SF...

2. First one, the one with "Fell in Love with a Girl"
It's a copy of a CD, so I don't have the cover and whatnot.

3. perhaps I should give them a closer look/listen
I haven't paid close attention to them . Iggy is awesome though isnt he? Have you had a chance to see him live? I have seen him live twice...

4. Never saw Iggy live...but I envy you...
White Stripes carries on in this tradition - very raw. Can't say I'm the biggest expert on them, but I can attest that after a few listens you won't be able to shake the hooks out of your head. Very powerpoppunk, as opposed to the brat punk that seems to be in every American Pie movie.

6. It's pretty good in the context of contemporary music
However, I don't think there's an idea in there that wasn't already better executed on Marquee Moon, Underwater Moonlight or The Modern Dance. It is catchy!
