Another classic soul song dies in the throat of a latter-day warbler.
In 1974, the Stylistics recorded the sublime ballad, "You Make Me Feel Brand New." It was a huge hit, and deservedly so. Thirty years later, that song has become the latest victim of the ongoing trend of remaking old hits (presumably because so few good songs are being written now). Its murderer is the execrable Simply Red, who had previously committed a crime against humanity with their horrid 1989 remake of another '70s soul classic, "If You Don't Know Me By Now."

Forget gay marriage. *This* is what we need a constitutional amendment prohibiting!:puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke:

2. Kee-ryst! Simply Red are actually STILL around?
:wtf:

I will say, though, Simply Red could never be even remotely as sacrilegious as Michael Bolton. The fact that he got as big as he did is what makes me think there's no hope for Moron-Americans, even more so than William Hung's popularity or the fact that large numbers of them voted a chimp into the White House.

4. But maybe Simply Red's murderous treatment of the inimitable Stylistics
Will inspire music lovers to discover the original, as sometimes can happen too.

I think the Stylistics are probably still performing. They did put out a hard to find album a few years ago. Notorious B.I.G. appeared on a couple of the cuts.

5. I can't believe Mick Hucknall's from Manchester
Think about it - the guy grew up not just hearing, but hanging out in the same places with the Buzzcocks, Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, the Fall, Blue Orchids and a dozen other totally fucking amazing bands, and when he finally steps up to the plate, he comes up with Simply Red? WTF?
