1. Ok, here's a line
"I don't think she could have gotten that finger in her mouth with one bite. That's kinda far fetched."

Interesting?

5. I've heard of "City of God" but I haven't seen it
"May" really isn't in the same class of film, except for being an off-the-wall, indescribable film with tinges of the supernatural.

Snip...............

Everyone, please welcome May (Angela Bettis).

Mousy, shy, and emotionally awkward, May had a less than normal upbringing with a politely overbearing mother. Her black “pirate” eye patch to emend a lazy right eye didn’t help social matters much amongst her schoolmates either. One birthday, a young May receives a damn creepy doll encased in a display box from her mother: a foot-tall mute companion whose pale porcelain features mirror that of May’s own sheltered complexion. This doll would prove to be a loyal “friend” for years to come.

7. It sounds interesting...
I'll check it out! My friend bugged me to death about Donnie Darko till I saw it, and I simultaneously bugged him about City of God till he watched it. So sorry, force of habit, there. ;)

8. I saw it a couple weeks ago Khephra~
And actually heard a radio jockey on "The Edge" (Dallas, TX) this morning talking about what a great horror movie it was.

To be honest I didn't like it that much, and I'm a big horror movie fan. I watched another one about werewolves called "Ginger Snaps" the same weekend and I thought it was much better. I don't want to give away to much so stop reading if you like as this might possibly be a 'spoiler'.

There was something about "May" I just didn't care for that much - I think it was the main character. I didn't find her at all enticing and had a hard time believing that Jeremy Sisto's character, or her female coworker would be at all interested in her company, even right at first. I also didn't like the cat scene.

Donnie Darko was my favorite movie last year - and I'm glad to hear that you recommended it to Duers. I'll probably be in the minority about disliking "May".

Have you seen "Ginger Snaps". Sort of an young female "American Werewolf in London" meets "Heathers".

12. That's actually funny
The actress who plays May stared as Carrie in the TV remake. She does a MUCH better job in this film.

11. People who should not see "May" include
People who are scared easily by dolls.

People who are scared easily by glass.

People who are scared easily by rejection.

13. Oh yeah
People who love cats... (I'm a cat lover, but I know that some cat fans can't stand cats being hurt in movies...May works for a vet...nuff said.)

and people who are phobic about scissors.

"I need more parts"

25. ugh...
maybe I won't see it. I really hate to see cats get hurt. Any animals. I just don't think it's necessary for a horror flick.

17. I absolutely loved it
I saw May a few weeks ago. I'd heard nothing about it, but the box art & description looked promising. I was blown away by it -- beautiful, moody, depressing, shattering. Even psychedelic in the combination of beauty and blackness.

For a while I had a scene from the movie on my computer as a desktop image. My wife teases me that I yearn for the girl.

18. It's one of those "special films"
Beauty and blackness is a perfect description.

I guess I should add that it REALLY is nothing like Donnie Darko, but it's an underappreciated film that no one knows about yet will be talked about for years because of DVD.

There is a whole outcast vibe about it all that is in both films, and they both have a certain happiness in a sad ending similarity.

Oh, they also both have kicking alternative soundtracks that would be worth buying.

19. Actually I just thought of a film it reminds me a bit more
If I was to use formula from "The Player", "May" would be....

American Beauty done from a young, single female outcast's perspective, with a touch of the mood and stylistic ultaviolence for goth/horror crowd.

20. Well I finally saw it
And I guess I didn't like it too much because I was expecting something like Donnie Darko, which was brilliant. The lead actress was pretty good but the actress who played her co-worker was incredibly amateurish. I don't like Grand Guignol all that much anyway.

23. Me & Pixie seen: May ~
A patchy little film filled w/pathos and a peculiar final scene. Holloween; a perfect night to run about with blood up to your elbows and a cooler full of body parts. But the filmmaker should have made the eyes on the doll in the glass case shift from time to time. A standard if while simple and rather odd, mind-focusing cinematic element. But that is admittedly a little nit-picky ~

24. HEY BUDDY!!!!
Will be seeing it soon. At the horror convention, the editor of Rue Morgue magazine said May was a must see. Also recommended Cabin Fever, and said that Bubba Ho Tep would finally get some limited theater release, then would go to DVD early next year.

Will put a package together for you once I get resettled here.
