Anybody like New Model Army or Sisters of Mercy?
These are 2 of my favorite non-mainstream bands that don't get much press on this side of the pond (US). Anybody else?

1. I adore Sisters of Mercy
I usually have one of their cds in my car next to the minstry, killing joke, and Django Reinhardt! (I like the B52s red album for driving too!

I'll have to look into New Model Army--never listened to them AFIK

3. New Model Army
my favorite cd of theirs:

Thunder And Consolation 1989
The follow up to Ghost Of Cain took ages to get right, but when it was finally completed it spawned three top 40 singles and even the NME had to admit it was one of the finest albums of the decade. The bands most successful album to date, it featured the violin work of Ed Alleyne-Johnson and created a whole new sound that paved the way for many of the "folk/rock" bands who followed. Originally released on vinyl this CD version features the tracks(*) from the "White Coats" EP that came out in 1987.

4. I saw New Model Army
This was in 1987 at the Concert for Berlin. It was a three-day open-air festival, and NMA was the very first band.

At the time they were trying to be a White Supremacist band--their whole between-songs rap was all "we're white, we're right, white power white power white power." And they weren't very good.

I think about six skinheads liked those guys; everyone else was throwing things at the stage.

6. yeah, I like NMA.....Thunder & Consolation..great album.
They are sort of Brit and sort of "80s", but I really like the political content and fairly good folk-rock vibe they got going. Pretty good band.

Some good stuff from them.
