Holy doodle! I just paid $192 for a prescription!!
Luckily I have a Union Drug plan that pays 80% of that, but I still have to wait to be reimbursed.

Yeesh!

4. Well...let's put it this way...
the prescription (Effexor) is an anti-depressant, but somehow spending $200 bucks for it is MORE depressing!

Seriously, though, I'm hangin' in there. I actually filed for the big "D" yesterday. A scary step, but necessary, and although it's sad, it's good to be one step toward closure.

Incidentally, Effexor is new, and it's prescribed for reactive depression, ie depression triggered by a traumatic event. It's administered incrimentally on a curve, with the strongest doses being administered about three months after the prescription begins, and gradually reducing for three more months, until there's virtually no drug left in the capsules. Then you just stop taking it. Six month commitment--no withdrawl, no dependency. And it seems to work very well, so far.

5. Watch your blood pressure...
I had to stop taking Effexor because it raised mine to dangerous levels. And it caused tiredness and vertigo upon standing. Not fun.

6. Yes, I have been...
I haven't had any vertigo or anything, but I monitor my blood pressure every day anyway because I'm training, and so far, no significant change. The only thing that I don't like about it is a metallic taste in my mouth, but I think I can survive that.

9. Thanks GOP! And everyone else!
One upside to all this is I'm going to be treating myself to a little trip to a Budhist monastery in California in the Fall, buying a used Land Cruiser, and driving it back home via Colorado. Maybe I'll get to actually meet some DUers along the way!

I'm not real wild about this particular product and have to admit you're a better man than I if you actually take it, but I hope it helps you and I have to admit any little bit to help the Wyeth bottom line is much appreciated at this point.

14. Hey, anything I can do to help Wyeth!
I'm more fascinated by the idea of a drug for reactive depression. It seems that if it does work, it would be perfect for people suffering depression resulting from events such as family death, violent events, divorce, inprisonment, geographical isolation, etc. I want to do some more reading on it.
