DU College Students: What is up with the Alcopops?
Like Mikes Hard lemonade, Smirnoffs Ice, etc...

What's the allure? They taste just like sour gatorade to me (yecchhh!)

2. Not a college student anymore, but here's my $.02
But Smirnoff's Ice is pretty good when you're out clubbing. (Not that I've done that in about 3 years now...) Refreshing after dancing, and doesn't make you feel 'full' like a beer. Sometimes cheaper than a bottle of water in clubs or bars that don't serve food.(Makes you wonder, doesn't it?!)

Also, easy to get, relative to hard liquor, IMO, as Alcopops are usually sold in grocery stores- someone who is of age can run out and grab them for those individuals who choose not to drink the swill otherwise known as 'college beer'.

3. My guess...
For people who don't want to make Jello shots (?)

I've never tried an Alcopop. They sound kinda silly.

4. well, they've been around in Europe for some time
I can't stand them, if I want a cocktail I'll go to a bar - not much more expensive, but far better. Anyway, they're criticized as being a lemonade-like initiation to alcohol for underage drinkers. Supermarkets were forced to introduce extra carding procedures for those alco-pops.
