I'm kind of glad I took the week off. I can't think of anything I would have had to say about the current carnage and Bush's 'response' apart from @#$!!!!!! and @#$@!#$$! (deleted) @#$@%%!!!!! and WEEP, WEEP FOR HUMANITY! and so on.

2. And you know what the worst part of this is?
Having seen it coming. You know, you keep hoping, 'hey, maybe I was wrong, maybe this war really WILL make things better? I mean, since we're having it anyway, that would be cool...' And then you turn out to have been right, and it REALLY sucks.

3. What's more
I'm starting to hear from people who were pro-war but now realize their mistake, "But telling me we shouldn't have gone doesn't help now. What are we going to do?" It makes me want to scream!

4. I know!!
I just had this conversation with another friend of mine who was anti-war to start with. She says, "Well, what SHOULD we do?" And all the things I could think of *used* to be options, but are now impossible. With the exception, of course, of pulling out altogether.

I mean this is the story: we're fucked, Iraq is fucked, we're all gonna be fucked for a long time. And it's because the @#$!s who were steering this boat didn't know what the @#$! they were doing.

The reality is that we do not control the situation over there. So the time when we coudl really 'do' anything (short of leaving) is, alas, past.

California Voters Reject Wal-Mart Initiative
By JOHN M. BRODER

Published: April 7, 2004
INGLEWOOD, Calif., April 7 ? Voters in Inglewood, a racially diverse working-class suburb of Los Angeles, have soundly rejected a ballot initiative to permit construction of a 60-acre Wal-Mart shopping complex exempt from virtually all state and local regulation.

Wal-Mart's defeat at the polls on Tuesday may portend difficult battles ahead for the retailing giant as it moves forward with plans to build 40 of its supercenters in California, combining Wal-Mart's usual assortment of goods with large grocery departments on as much as 200,000 square feet of floor space. The Los Angeles City Council is preparing an ordinance that would in essence outlaw construction of such retail behemoths within the city limits and several other California cities, including San Diego, are considering similar measures.

The Inglewood vote against the Wal-Mart, by a 60 percent to 40 percent margin, was a victory for a coalition of unions, churches and community groups who said the shopping development would have driven local retailers out of business and gutted the city's legal, environmental and planning powers.

Wal-Mart spent more than $1 million to promote the initiative, which the company put on the ballot after local officials rejected the proposed development last year. The vote was closely watched around the nation as a test of Wal-Mart's ability to sway public opinion and influence political bodies as the company moves from rural and small-town America into the heart of the nation's largest cities....

MoveOn Staffer Moves on to Kerry Campaign
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 1:16 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A strategist with MoveOn.org, a group that Republicans accuse of being too closely tied to Democrat
John Kerry's presidential campaign, is leaving to work for Kerry.

Zack Exley will be the Kerry campaign's director of online communications and organizing. He was the MoveOn political action committee's special projects director, focusing on research and mobilizing MoveOn supporters, Eli Pariser, the PAC's executive director, said Wednesday....

9. Ugh, Walmart
There's moving into my neighborhood soon. They've already got a store a few miles up the road, and now they want to build a "supercenter" less than a mile from my house. It's terrible.

7. Unfortunately, I think they did know what they were doing
Either they 1)simply didn't care about anything other than the oil contracts and lining their pockets, or 2)this was in the plans-perhaps they were hoping for something catastrophic that would piss off the Freeper contingent and get them yelling for full scale war in retribution. Certainly has worked that way so far...

8. Wanting to be wrong
Hey Plaid,

You're my favorite DUer and even in despair I appreciate your posts. What you bring home to me is the disadvantage I felt a year ago in arguing with * supporters. I WANTED TO BE WRONG. Wanted the horrendous sense of dread I felt to be nothing more than partisan disbelief in our great leader. Wanted this Iraq adventure not to be the clusterf**k every fiber of my being said it was.

Against this sense of dread, the Wingers had against us their insatiable drive to be completely right all the time about everything. Personified and exemplified by the Chimp in Chief.

So now, everything shows that WE WERE RIGHT AND THEY WERE WRONG. And what do we get in response, but relentless abuse for supposedly *wishing* things would turn out as they have.

May they all rot in hell for eternity,

CYD
