Boarding my cat tomorrow for a week - feel so guilty

We are boarding our cat tomorrow at our vet for a week and feel so guilty. Typically, we have people to check in and take care of her in our home. Two months ago, she nearly died and the vet at the time said she was going to die. We changed vets and she improved after 15 days of not eating. The meds she was given helped but she could relapse when we stopped her meds which was a week ago. With her health situation, we felt best to have her carefully watched while we are gone. I know it is the best for her but so worried she will stress out. I just hope she does not think we are leaving her. Any experiences?

1. About 3 months ago we adopted an abandoned kitten born under our back porch....

We had him (Hank) neutered and got his shots. Then at Christmas we left town for a week and boarded Hank (his first night ever inside). When we picked him up he seemed just as unimpressed as he was when we left him. He was as affectionate as always and definitely hadn't lost any weight.

Good luck. I understand the guilt you're feeling well. Its hard to leave defenseless family in the care of strangers.

2. It really does sound like you're looking after her best interests

Whether she appreciates it or not. Considering what happened before, you're leaving her in the safest place possible. If there is any problem, professionals, who know her, will know what to do. This will also ease your mind, since otherwise you'd probably be worried all the time. :(

I know exactly how you feel. I've adopted older animals, so have spent plenty of time at the vet's. If your pet is sick when s/he's with you, you worry whether you should take him/her to the vet. But if your pet has to spend the night at the vet, you agonize because you're not there to watch over him/her. *sigh*

You really have done the best you can. You can call in to check on her and you might consider asking someone she knows well and is fond of to stop by and visit sometimes. I did that for my neighbor's Newfoundland, LOL. Good luck! :hi:
