Poll question: Avril Lavigne. Real Deal or Rehash?
Ever time I hear the profound lyrics of that skater tune, or when I'm listening to David Bow-EE, I think of the anti-Britney, Ms. Avril.

1. I love Avril
A lot of people will disagree, but I'm sticking to it. :)

2. She sure as hell is no punk!
But she writes songs (I guess) and plays with actual musicians instead of canned Swedish disco tracks, so that automatically makes her better than most of the shit she's competing with.

But she's a punk like Bush is President. Which can also be said about Blink 182, Sum 41 and the rest of those posers.

3. Damn, finally someone else doesn't like bubble-gum punk music
I can't stand those whiny white boy punk bands, like the ones you mentioned. I'll add New Found Glory to that list. They make me ashamed of my race and gender.

4. They're all not punk
It's just that I often don't like pure punk and prefer the catchiness of Avril, Green Day, and to a lesser degree Blink 182. Sleater-Kinney and the Ramones are exceptions for me. I do not like Sum 41, Good Charlotte, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, or New Found Glory.

I wish there would have been another option for Avril: all around enjoyable artist. I voted for sage, but she really isn't a sage yet. She'll improve, but right now the strength of her lyrics is her charisma. She's not quite up to Alex Bach and Michelle Branch level.
