Has anyone else been watching Boardwalk Empire religiously?
Season 2 Finale Next Sunday.

Quite easily the best show on television...

I'm thinking Jimmy and Nucky are going to rejoin forces and take back Atlantic City for the keep. Some more characters are sure to be written off.

*Anxious*

1. I am
I'm a little behind, though, so I have a few episodes to see before the season finale. I absolutely love this show, although it took me a while to get into it.

2. I was hooked from the first episode.
It's riveting and they do a great job of depicting life in the 1920s.

But I love that show.

5. Boy howdy
It was hinted at for the whole time though, I'm surprised they finally confronted it so bluntly.

And now the way she talks about being the mother to her grandson? Jimmy needs to keep an eye on her.

8. Seriously, they did a great job hinting at the abuse
It was hard not to pick up, but they way they hit us with it was heavy.

7. Love this show
The Jimmy and Mom thing explains a lot, but I, too, was surprised they focused in on it as sharply as they did. That is one of the things that makes for really great storytelling. Plus the acting is absolutely top notch.

I am pretty sure that the signal I got from mom as she ascends the stairs at the end of last night's episode is that she expects a continuation of their verboten relationship..or his son will be the next in line.

Can't wait for the finale and I agree.. one of the very best shows yet.

Interesting that most on my list of truly great television are on HBO

10. Great show. And that Jimmy/Mom thing hit the high side of creepy.
Not a real surprise but it was interesting that they went there so graphically. I think it's pretty accurate but I keep being astonished at how easy it was to get away with murder. Some high profile people have been killed (trying to avoid spoilers here) and I keep being impressed that the police don't much pursue it.

...isn't exactly the high point of police opprobrium.

15. Part of it is probably that law enforcement was less powerful and effecitve then

But it also has to do with the demands of shepherding a violent television show through multiple seasons. In the real world, murderers quite often get caught if they aren't extremely careful. But on a violent television show where the main characters commit murder, you have to stretch credulity so they don't get caught and can continue to be on the show and contribute to the plot, which they can't do if all of their time is taken up dealing with legal issues and sitting in jail cells.

The Sopranos was a good example of this. There were plenty of murders on that show where the main characters left boatloads of physical evidence behind. All would have had rap sheets and been well known to the cops. For many of those murders, they Soprano crew would have been the very first people the cops looked at. It probably wouldn't have been hard to charge and convict them for many of those murders. But viewers don't want high cast turnover, so the writers overlooked that kind of thing so that the main characters could participate for all seven seasons.

14. Absolutely. My favorite show on television by far
Glad you posted this. I was going to post a thread here about how creepy 'that scene' was from the last episode.

My SO made the same prediction as you after the episode where Manny visited Jimmy's house. She said that Jimmy will have no choice but to go back to Nucky if he wants to remain influential. Sunday's episode seems to make that more likely. The conspiracy against Nucky is all but dead. Eli's got serious legal problems, the Commodore is gone, Chalky and the black community are in Nucky's corner, and Jimmy's gangster buddies have written him off. The only people he has left is the WWI veteran guy and his mother. I think he'll try to make nice and then Nucky will double-cross him as payback for Jimmy's treachery.

BTW I will predict that Jimmy turns on his mother as well, as he will not want his son to be raised by a woman prone to sexual abuse.

17. Jimmy burned that bridge behind him...
His future holds nothing but heroin addiction and vengeance, then soon an early demise. Fortunately for us viewers, we get to see the downward spiral before we have to say goodbye to Jimmy Dormody.

Just like when The Sopranos ditched Big Pussy in the Atlantic, Jimmy is a heretofore likable hero who will find himself the very casualty that vaults Nucky to the central character for whom the show was written. Nucky is smarter, more influential, and more certainly compassionate than Dormody ever was. His death will be remarkable next season. Meanwhile, we watch as "the new king" of Atlantic City fumbles the ball he intercepted from Nucky Thompson.

I hope both Michael Shannon (Van Alden) and Michael Pitt have day jobs they can fall back on. Maybe Vodka ads like Sopranos star Michael Imperioli.

For those who feel there may have been something they missed on each week's episode, here's a recap that covers the entire series:
