SABBATH! Osbourne, Iommi, Butler & Ward reunite for first new album since 1978 & 2012 world tour
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Veteran British rock band Black Sabbath said on Friday they are reuniting in their original four man line-up for a new album and a world tour.

The band, which recorded its last studio album of all original material in 1978, told a Los Angeles news conference they would perform at the Download Festival in England in June 2012, and then embark on a world tour.

Guitarist Tommy Iommi, singer Ozzy Osbourne, bass player Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward first got together in 1969. After a revolving line-up for a number of years they got back together for the 1998 album "Reunion" but split again afterward.

Rumors of a possible reunion of the English metal band, which has sold over 70 million albums, have been swirling for months.

1. Is Reuters via Yahoo
a credible source?

Because just a few months ago Iommi said he was just gabbing - not really planning...more of a "what if..." thing...

And I'm tired of getting all excited and then getting the overdoes of saltpeter when it comes crashing down.

I'll pay good money to see that tour though.

3. Yes
...I recall the "premature announcement" a few months ago...matter of fact, I posted it here before I knew it was "premature"...but the "official announcement" came today.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Veteran British rock band Black Sabbath announced on Friday they are reuniting in their original four man line-up for their first new album in 33 years and a 2012 world tour.

Singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bass player Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward told a news conference at legendary Sunset Strip club Whisky a Go Go they would perform at the Download Festival in England in June 2012, and then embark on a world tour.

6. They just buried Ronnie James Dio.
That was quick.

7. That was probably the turning point...
...the event that changed "we shan't work together again" to "we will have a new album and a world tour in 2012."

They could have toured as long as they wanted to as "Heaven and Hell" with Ronnie out front.

I haven;t paid attention to how well Ozzy's been doing since he and long-time guitarist Zakk Wylde parted ways, but I'm sure live venues were equally as lucrative.

But when Ronnie passed on I'm sure they all felt a little bit of their own mortality, and also heard the "CHA-CHING" of sales for reunion tours for Van Halen, Judas Priest, The Police...

And there's a demand. I don't think any Sabbath fan wants to hear half-assed renditions of their hits, but if they still have the chops, why not? As far as new material is concerned, it probably won't be any better or worse than the last Ozzy and Heaven and Hell albums.

:toast:
